Off to Worcester DVLA tomo to hopefully get the champ registered, don't know what we will all do if they close the local offices can just see it now as the Swansea computer says " NO" Grrrrrrrrr./QUOTE]
Just so you know there is a DVLA office in Bristol near Cribbs Causeway. Also I note you are FoD. I would be interested to hear when you get blasting done as I live in Cinderford and my old Blaster chap got the big C and packed up.
Oooops just noticed you got sorted at Worcester.....Did they need to see the vehicle etc???

I was always told by diehard vintage motoring relatives that Redex is a worthwhile additive to use for any type of engine.
After Lee and Clive posting the RR memo on unleaded fuel then surely an additive like Redex will look after the internals / combustion elements and I believe it does offer some form of lubrication also?????

Wayne the No.10 is waterproofed as the slip ring end is in a waterproof enclosure. All the heat sink & diodes etc are allowed to get wet & the paint serves as insulation not just for preservation. But if you are going to use strong chemicals best to remove it but brush cleaner then water you should be ok provided nobody has poked around inside the slip ring enclosure & failed to follow the re-sealing procedures on re-assembling.
The paint looks unmollested and in sync with the engine coating so guess not been tampered with.
If I am in any doubt I will remove No10. Thanks for reply

Well, it looks like an insulated electrical terminal post to me!
Did you have a split charger or anything fitted that required an additional feed taken elsewhere?
It may also be that it was used on the bulkhead to link out what would have been the starter solenloid on a non pre-engaged (inertia) starter motor system after a pre-engaged starter was fitted, if you know what I mean.
Also the case if it was converted from petrol to diesel, the solenoid wire would have been extended from its original place to down onto the starter motor as well.
Does that jog any memories?
Alec.
Alec the starter motor thing could make sense. was always petrol motor so diesel thought discounted. I didn't get a picture of the engine bay near the solenoid for starter so I guess I need someone with another landy to take a picture of theirs in-situ.
Thanks for reply though. Appreciated

Dear All thank you for the 3 alternatives that you have personally tested.
I have access to a 'cold' pressure washer and hot soapy water so a couple of the above options seem the easiest.
Thanks again.
I shall take some pics once sprussed up!
Clive should I do anything special in generator is still attached or best to remove???? Just a thought

A query! What is the best way to clean a scruffy, mucky engine like mine?
In the past GUNK was always the product of choice, but are there any other DIY remedies.
Would a mild solution of caustic soda cause damage if well rinsed, but used to free off the grime.
I know it can be used as a paint stripper if consentrated like a gel / paste.

WMIK or DPV??????
Now there is a sexy Land Rover based upon a 110 HCPU

No ideas from any of the LR possie on the part I have forgot about and where it goes at start of this thread????
-
Wayne meant to say, the terminal looks to be like that used inside the type of shunt box fitted with the single ammeter. The mounting on a bracket though is unfamiliar to me.
I seem to remember it was in engine bay for some reason near bulkhead?????
2012 will not be a good year for me mate, but thanks for comments

9ACR means the cable is from an FV432.
Chris
Chris that is most useful and now proves totally useless to a Landrover / Humber owner.
Is it for batteries for a Clansman set up.
More puzzling is when and where I aquired it all those years ago?????

Casing looks to long for 7.62 SLR, the indents were so that it could be recognised by feel that it was an inert drill round, sometimes they had red paint in the indents.
I'll second the indent comment from Richard.
Inert drill rounds are typically shiny silver now along with the indents so as to be even more noticeable (NATO 5.56mm). If the MOD had a variation for blank fire rounds compared to ball or tracer then the DVD 'A Soldiers Story' could have been for something less sadenning and prevent live and blank getting mixed up on the training area or range etc.

Dear All
I know this came of my winterised FFR but can't remember where.
Can anyone help so that I can bag it and store it safe for future refurb and assembly?
Also found a connecting power lead???? Any pointers please.
Thanks in advance.
Oh and a Happy New Year to one and all as been away from the forum for some time.
Regards

I have just removed a 12v GS battery tray from my replacement chassis to fix the oil bath support tray as mine is an FFR. If you pay for the postage it's yours. It almost complete except for where I cut it off. Top tray and the splayed tapered leg are all there though. As Ruxy states you can easily fab up the other legs required etc from plate.Cheers

Some time ago Ruxy asked about details and pics of the chassis I have that is a S2/S3 crossover for the Lightweight.
I attach the images I took today as I have to move here soon due to a change in circumstances, and so I am getting the FFR in a state for transportation. Hence the unrefurbed bits being re-fixed temporarily!
Tony let me know if you need more buddy!

AAAAAaaaaarrrhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Did Humberistry get so precise!!!!!!!
I feel we have gone off at a tangent temporarily on the thread........
Clive bring it back on track please!
-
Richard for Gods sake don't you join his band wagon I feel unworthy enough!!!!!!
And I thought that showing a modern dimension such as 396.98mm in construction was hard enough for a builder. LOL...LMAOL
-
Oh No.....Named and Shamed Clive....Whatever next....I will be referring to M10 bolts on the pig instead of 3/8ths.....
The Shame.......Should be used to Imperial with old Landies as well. Just goes to show!
Day job of metric measurement overrules and clouds my vision in description....
I thought Ton was an Americanism anyway

I shall take a small amount of comfort as a Humber 1 Tonne Virgin that I was at least thinking latterally on this about excessive grease and in the wrong place at least.
However Richard has a major edge on a none MT techie like me...... Humbug!

Clive it is not a massive article, but a retro page, which included some Shorlands in Portugal.
I photod the page as the attached image![:D](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin.png)
