Start a seperate thread mate on Jeep......Keeps the awareness for other Jeep enthusiasts on a Jeep subject.
It may get missed if absorbed in your champ threads

:D:nut:
Andy that is Brrrrillllliant!

Clive I have always quoted to my siblings at work that they should always listen to the chap building what they have drawn and designed as there is no substitute for knowledge and experience..............
You deserve every kind word said about the matter and you....................
I just hope you cook as well as you teach!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl::whistle::whistle::yay::yay::yay:

We are all very lucky to have someone like Clive in the military vehicle world.
Regards
Phil

Yes but only grey anti corosion paint the marks towards the top are from my attempts at filling some tin worm with a bit of mig weld. Will not gloss it untill near the time to fit it to the champ due to risk of damage.

Hey Brooky cheers. i will leave on farm to rot away other than find a savior
-
Richard all noted and thank you but i thought i read somewhere that Raleigh didn't just make bikes and made other items during WWII.
I may be way off but something just telling me these may have more about them. the farm in question had an old RAF tractor tender also way back so bought ex military vehicles they still use the weights from the front on modern day tractors......
May be just wishfull thinking on my part
-
I think you are correct and merely educating people on military vehicles and their history......
Anyway why are modern day pink panthers not pink?????
Laymans terms can always catch you out.
Your answer now tells the reader a lot more about that vehicle and its close relatives

Jeremy has that bonnet been cleaned and primed by Deano..enjoying your thread

Are they worth saving? The empty one in green has Sleigh Industries along side rails. What did they manufacture in the war effort?
-
Any typical service shots would be interesting if someone has in their archive :-D
-
Is it possible to check what they are more closely. i go there often and don't mind investing. also if they have MT value it would be a shame to see them wrott in a field being used as storage tressles. If anyone is interested in owning one for a Schamell I could ask if a deal could be done
-
I spotted these double bogey trailers on a friends farm and thought here would be the best place to ask if they are ex Military or Agricultural.
My mate on the farm said they were from different tractor units on Gas couplings or a Scammell coupling?????
Pics may help. The more complete / fresher looking one had the remnants of 'Raleigh Industries Nottingham' on the side rail???? If that means anything to anyone.
They appear to have had the draw bars modified, but I say that out of them all being different and 2 of the 3 looking a little DIY.
Enjoy

RR took a peek in my album of an image for an old school NATO hitch and came across this one off an FV1611a so it would be dated to suit original humber build of 1953 or conversion to Pig in 1959.
Hope it helps on type and dating for your early Champ

it is mentioned on the web page, just wanted to say it agian, electrolytic processes produce hydrogen gass or oxygen gass, so ventilate
Yes very important and thank you for reiterating should anyone have a go

That is a very useful link indeed and thank you very much..........
I will see about constructing such a bath and see what happens to the corroded parts........
Watch this space as they say............

I digress slightly , a few weeks ago - I was perusing as USA vehicle restoration web site. Somebody had made up a wooden trough and lined it with pond-liner (Visqueen DPC - should be OK) and then used the rust electrolysis cleaning method (with washing soda) on rusted but serviceable leaf springs. Hosed down - they came up as if they had been shot blasted and it cleaned out inter-leaf rust (negating dismantling of springs to blast) , this is something I intend to look into for springs - quick , cheap & effective.
I understand this method also removes crud along with rust (obviously you remove the heavy crud first) .
If anybody has had good result - I would like to hear of the finer details and also the transformer they used..
Is a simple diagram available for this and are the plates rigged with seperate power supplies????? What does the charge do to the caustic soda and will it create harmful gasses etc??????
Idiots questions maybe????
-
Caustic soda in a plastic tub with a scoop of washing powder and a squirt of washing up liquid will remove oil based paints from steel parts. Care has to be taken with alluminuim parts as the caustic soda will erode the alloy to nothing.
Caustic soda does not work on two pack paints but as most military paints will be oil based you should be o.k. for awhile.
Not to be used near children or where animals may access the liquid.
I have used it as an acid bath paint stripper and cleaner on a few items and they came up quite well and the paint just fell off.
Does anyone know what effect caustic soda solution has on rusty / siezed parts and rubber seals out of interest........??

For those that Anchor for the real thing one day.....
-
Thats definately the vehicle.....I suspect it was in storage on the farm with all those caravans......
Looking at the price I am shocked / or / amazed........Not sure which yet!!!!
-
Clive it was being moved from a Farm near Easter Compton. I am unaware if that is where the Mk2 was from or whether it was part of a mixed pick up.....obviously the excavator was picked up afterwards.......
I guessed it was for a film or TV or someone with a sense of humor!

93EL57 Rover 8FFR Toastie
in Blogs of MV restorations
Posted
I got to spend some time with the Toastie I kept today after a brief seperation and so decided to start a thread about her new journey.
Images attached are at the start of her journey and some detailed photos of her as the 'Before' sceanrio.
Chapter One.:-)
First the move, which was done by Farol Transport in Oxfordshire (www.farol.co.uk). Thoroughly professional, friendly and efficient. They were also on time, quick and I think fairly well priced. Wokingham to Oxfordshire via M4 Reading..A Road from High Wycombe to M40 and then up to J7 M40......£300 inc VAT. If you need advice ask for Russell in Transport Dept.
