Page 20 of December's Old Glory carries an ominous report -
It says that the last fully operational WW1 tank, a Mark V, was run for possibly the very last time on Nov 8th, as it was driven out from it's place in the Tank Museum, Bovington, and onto a low loader for transit to the Lord Mayor's show in London.
It does not explain why this might be the final run, but if it is true can anyone enlighten us as to why?
I cannot understand why it would not be possible to keep operational and on occasion, demonstrate, such an important relic :dunno:
I've been reliably informed that Bovington WW1 tank is one of two that is currently on a BBC Film set in Essex..
The other is a replica, Just seen one of them driving across the fields but from the distance I was at I couldn't tell which one it was.. Will try & get some photos tomorrow..
I only got sight of one of the 2 Tanks on set there & I could be wrong about it being the Bovy Tank but there was a Tank Museum sign written vehicle there..
The Filming is for 3 episode WW1 drama based on true stories from a British Soldiers diary for BBC Factuals.
When I was contacted for help finding people for this I was told The first episode they are filming is set during 1918 Battle of Amiens but they are shooting it out of sequence so not sure what episode they are filming at the moment.. very big production though..

Has any one thought of asking Rex if he has a vehicle in his yard that may be suitable for a recovery exercise that he might be able to bring to the show?

Continuous Insurance has been around for a while now

True You didn't mention blanks my old Marmite but in the service there usualy 3 types of basic rounds "ignoring AP, FSAPDS, APDS, Illuminating, Smoke ETC". Live, Blank or Subcaliber as in 105 Light Gun in 14mm, the old LAW66, SLR "in .22". plus others. The heads of sheds took a dim view of useing unorthorised pyro/charges in weapons, it would at least mean a charge of Negligance Misuse and Damage or a Courts Marshal and a visit to Colly MCW.
Regards and I didn't mean to offend
Tiffy (Rob)
No offense taken mate..
No Blanks for the BAT's but there was a BAT Back Blast Simulator for demonstrating the Back Blast of the Weapon.. Got the manual for constructing it :cool2:

Maybe Cosrec will volunteer his pride and joy for the exercise :goodidea:
-
The Hestons site shows it with sturdy mountings, Lee, this has no mounts, but is as described in their site.
Those mounts look like a PW addition
-
Never said it was a blank round.. was just making an observation that from the of photos I've seen of all types of BAT's firing the Back Blast is a lot bigger than that shown in the film.. it may of just been film speed or something that made it look that way..
I certainly get a more impressive bang when I fire my MOBAT..

The 'Draft Clauses and Explanatory Notes' for the 2014 Finance Bill, which included the revisions to the vehicle tax system stated the reasons for making vehicle tax non transferable:
“It will no longer be possible to transfer the benefit of a vehicle licence when there is a change of registered keeper. As a consequence of this, where there is a new registered keeper he/she will be obliged to take out a new vehicle licence when the vehicle to which the vehicle licence relates is transferred to him/her. The reason for now preventing vehicle licences being transferred from registered keeper to registered keeper is to avoid a new registered keeper unknowingly keeping an unlicensed vehicle. For example, in the absence of a paper licence a vehicle may be purchased supposedly with the benefit of a vehicle licence. The new keeper would believe that the vehicle was licensed, but the former keeper could apply for a refund of VED without the knowledge of the new keeper resulting on the new keeper having an unlicensed vehicle.”

Interesting! Sniper scope a world away from artillery scope surely? A load of old 25pr and other shell cases are with it as well. Would they be used for both?
As far as I know it has nothing to do with 25pdr? think someone is confusing it with the No 22 Telescope http://thegunner.net/khxc/gbu0-prodshow/No22C-Scope_and_web_strap.html

Do the connectors have any numbers on them (sometime stamped into the ring around the connector). I doubt they would have used a special connector, it's probably just uncommon. You might find it's still available from the manufacturer.
Military Connectors are available from RS if you have the cash.. http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/?searchTerm=military+connector&sra=oss&r=t#

Hi MARMITE
well I hope they are right ? I got 2 one for mains and one for in the truck .
your printer is that a SSP ? I have just acquired one and wondered where I can get the paper roll from ? I guess its some kind of DOT matrix printer ??
Cheers
Rich
Just looked on Xmod http://www.thexmod.com/search.asp?search=computer&t=1 & can't see any power leads relating to the LX1
SSP? not sure what that means?
-
Hi Iain
Power leads are on order from Xmod as you suggested , thanks for that , excellent stuff .
Are you sure you have ordered the correct lead?? last person I know who ordered one from Xmod for an LX1 got the wrong lead.. it's not a standard size socket.. Others have just swapped the socket on the LX1 for a standard Clansman socket & used a Clansman plug & lead..
I have a LX1 & a Ptarmigan printer for sale if anyone interested

As far as I understand It is illegal to knowingly disable a safety device such as ABS Brakes & probably invalidates your Insurance too..
Can't see any situation where you would need to disable the ABS Brakes?
