  1. Contrary to rumours we will not be hosting a 'Bunker Bash' Show at the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, this year or in 2015.

Bunker Bash was one of a kind, and we’d like to thank all the exhibitors, traders and attendees that helped us make the show what it was.

As for the future - we’re currently looking at a possible new venue for the May 2015 show season. Watch this space.

    http://news.sky.com/story/1226196/torpedo-fired-by-navy-into-plymouth-dockyard

A torpedo has been fired accidentally by a Royal Navy warship into a dockyard wharf.

HMS Argyll was on a training exercise at Devonport dockyard in Plymouth when the dummy weapon was "jettisoned unexpectedly".

The Royal Navy said the Test Variant Torpedo did not contain explosives and no one was on the jetty at the time.

There were no injuries but it caused minor damage to a security fence when it landed inside the Devonport Naval Base, which the ship was along Training has been suspended while an investigation is carried out to find out the cause of Wednesday's incident.

A Navy spokesman said: "HMS Argyll was conducting a system test when an inert Test Variant Torpedo was jettisoned unexpectedly. The torpedo is not an explosive hazard.

"The specific details of the incident are subject to further investigation and it would be inappropriate to comment further.

"The result of the investigation will determine what actions will be necessary to avoid any repeat of this incident in the future.

"However, torpedo system test firing alongside in the naval base has been suspended subject to completion of the investigation."

Plymouth-based HMS Argyll, which was built in the late 1980s, is the longest-serving Type 23 frigate in the Royal Navy.side.

  3. For the eagle eyed you will have spotted the damaged threads on the left side.

Does anyone have one of these not attached to a vehicle for sale? Bannisters do not have one.

What about a suggested repair for the thread? I am thinking take the whole thing apart and silver solder on a new threaded piece if I can match he thread and pitch.

    Any suggestions?

You could try Clive Pemberton, he had all my Fox spares off me a while back & there was a take off tap in that lot..

[h=2]Vehicle records[/h] We have digitised the 210,000 Army 'B' vehicle history cards, previously held by the Museum of Army Transport. These hold records for vehicles entering service from the 1940's to the late 1980's. More details. These are available for download at a price of £35. Please enter the equipment registration mark ('ERM') in the search box below to see if we have a copy of the cards. In entering the registration mark please use the correct format (e.g. 95KB65) with no spaces.

If you do not know the ERM, we may be able to locate the records from the chassis number of the vehicle. This requires some research as only a small number of chassis numbers have been transcribed. The fee to commission the research is £10, but please note that we cannot guarantee to locate the required vehicle record, and that this fee is non-returnable. To request a chassis number search, please click here and follow instructions If we can locate the vehicle record from its chassis number, we will advise you the ERM, and you can then download the vehicle record from this page for £35.

A further source of vehicle records are 'Key Cards'. These only contain brief details and can be obtained from The RLC Museum for a £35 research fee. More details

Finally, The RLC Museum does not hold records for vehicles entering service after 1989. These can be obtained from The Policy Secretariat of MOD Defence Equipment and Support. More details

  5. I tend to dabble with older Jap bikes and used to insure through Footman James until last year. It seems there was some sort of split and one of the family members, Peter James, set up on his own and by all accounts has taken quite a slice of the classic bike business away from Footman James for many of the reasons discussed.

This year, I insured my Katana and Kawasaki GTR with Peter James for a very reasonable premium. Web site here:

I had a katana many yeas ago, bought it new

The War and Peace Revival 2014 Open Day!

So successful was our Open Day last year we've decided to hold one for 2014!

You are invited to come along to the War and Peace Revival Open Day on Saturday 10 May 2014 at RAF Westenhanger, Folkestone Racecourse from 10.30am – 2pm. We’ll have music, vehicles and tours. The Spitfire Tea Room will be open so you can savour some of this vintage finery, or drop into the Jazz Bar for a drink. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of some of the key Officials and take a wander around the site.

At 11am we will have a Press-Preview of our stunning WW1 bronze statue, commissioned as our 2014 tribute piece and modelled on a re-enactor from the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment. Bearing the insignia of East Kent’s The Buffs, the 9’ tall soldier is advancing through the trenches, bayonet drawn and ready for action. At the same time a competition will be launched among Kent school-children to name the statue with an appropriate period name. The winning name will be announced on Schools’ Day Wednesday 16 July 2014 during the Official unveiling at 11am.

Day and evening tickets will be on sale and you can complete and return your paperwork during the Open Day in the War and Peace Revival Information Offices at Folkestone Racecourse.

Once again, the Press will be invited so come in uniform or costume, dress up to the nines or down to the trenches, come with vehicles or by train …you never know where your photo could end up!

For more information, to let us know you’re coming or to get more involved, email georgina@warandpeace.uk.com
