  1. Extracted rom the War & Peace show website:

    TRAINS

If coming from abroad, you can catch the Eurostar nearly all the way to the War and Peace Show. You need to change trains at Ashford, and take the next train to Paddock Wood station, where you can get a taxi to the show (approx 2 miles).

Alternatively, take a train into London and make your way to Charing Cross mainline station, for a direct connection to Paddock Wood, where taxis are readily available (approx 2 miles). You can also get trains to the show from London Bridge and Waterloo East.

    Telephone contact details:

    Charing Cross: 020 7839 2576

    London Bridge: 020 7234 1068

    Railtrack: 08457 114141

    See http://www.thewarandpeaceshow.co.uk for further info...

  2. Thanks folks - looks like taking your own is the thing to do. An easy drive in a Landrover isn't so easy in a Stalwart!

Won't be too bad post Friday evening/Sat morning as the missus will be joining me and her car will be in the support vehicles park - just need to get through Thursday evening/Friday.

Think I'll get the Cadac gas BBQ out of the caravan and put it in the back of the Stalwart together with a cool-box with bangers, bacon, eggs butter etc. Oh yes - and beer

Only two weeks left to go!!!

  3. Now getting it on the I maybe stupid, but...... > What oil types are best thread.

In the Opera browser the page loads till the penultimate entry, hangs with a "Document: 64Kb" message in the status window then apears to complete with the last post and half the penultimate one missing.

Don't know if thats of any help at all....

  4. Bit of a brain-picking exercise here... Apologies if it makes me seem a bit of a hopeless wotsit but....

The W&P event is the first I'll ever have done both in terms of an MV show and, for the first two days at least, without the other half so I'm after the opinions of those regular/more experienced in these matters.

Question being - whats the norm for eating on site??? I see from the paperwork that there is a couple of good restaurant type places on-site inc. one doing what looks to be a good breakfast.

I also see that there is a "NAAFI" store selling bacon, eggs, bread, butter etc. there.

Is this store competitively priced to make cooking for oneself an good idea or, as a solo, would it be better to rely on the site catering facilities??

    Thanks all,

  5. Neil £2 per litre seems a bit high for Supreme 30. I know prices have risen and it is a while since our last delivery but we were paying less than £1 per litre in 25 litre drums.

Thats the price from their agent in Dagenham!! £2/litre irrespective of quantity.

Don't know if I cold have got it cheaper from another agent further away - however then the law of diminishing returns kicks in and the lower cost of the oil would have to be offset againt the cost of the fuel in getting there. No to mention grief of the ear-hole from the missus 'cos I've nicked her car to go and get it....

Right now I'd been advised to get hold of these two oils for the journey home the week after next - this I've now done and, hopefully, should have enough there to last a little while!! Next time I'll do a bit more phoning around and see whether that £2/litre is a general price or just from this particular agent. :-)

  6. Thanks Lee!!

Had some good and not so good news today.

Not so good is that Castrol never answer thir phones

Good is that Morris rung me back with the following info:

    OMD-110 - Straight SAE-30 required by the Stalwarts gearbox = Morris's Supreme 30 @ £2.00/Litre code is SUP-25

    OEP-220 - EP90 gear oil = Morris's Lodexsol 80W90 @£1.98/Litre - code is EPE-025

    OM-13 - Hydraulic Oil = Morris's Liquimatic No. 2 @ £1.50/Litre - code is LIT-025

    XG-279 - waterproof grease - Morris's K323 @£71.00/ 12.5 Kg cake :? - code is PBG-075

OC-320 - Colloidal Graphite Compound = No equivalent, Achesons Oildag seems to be it.

And the best bit is - their local stockist is:

    Jet Factors

    5 Hewett Road

    Dagenham

    Tel 020 85176432

Only a mile or two from where I live!!!

Waiting for Jet to ring back with prices - will update this post when I get this info.

Typical - hit "post" and THEN the phone rings :-) Prices inserted above in Red.

  7. So you rang 01793 452222 .....and they said????

    You did ring Didn't You?

Not yet - didn't think the department would be open at that time so I intend giving them a ring tomorrow from work.

:?I hope you have better luck than me I tried two weeks ago and am still waiting a reply

Who was that with - Castrol or Morris????

  8. Well - Castrol beat Morris to the reply - but thats as far as it goes.

I contacted the name given for technical queries asking which of their products would equate to OMD-75 or -110 and OEP-220. Gave him the specifications from Clives sheet and this is the response:

I have no x-reference for MOD codes, Give Castrol Consumer Tech Dept a ring on 01793 452222

Lets hope Morris do better!!!!!!!!

  9. We were enroute to visit friends in Althorp, Essex today and passed a GMC CCKW (I think) broken down on the A132 - a lady was standing at the rear of the truck and the driver was perched on the front bumper with his head under the bonnet. Couldn't stop to offer any kind of aid as (1) we were rather late and (2) we had a pair of dip-sticks riding on our rear bumper...

Anyways on the way home 3 hours later it was still there only now with a cluster of people around it.

Do hope it wasn't any one from this forum!!!!!!

  10. Been a busy little bee this week making preparations for the trip to the show - bear in mind I'm starting this from cold - so cold that the temp guage would read 0!!

Thus far I've managed to create four A1 information panels and get them laminated at work (comes in handy being the only one who knows how to maintain a certain type of printer) as well as a HMVF ID card - also laminated - for the windscreen. Just need to make up some frames for the info. panels and then the section q part about driving over 3.5 tons as a mobile project vehicle is complied with.

Also managed to get an appropriate tent from ebay -see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/British-Army-Woodland-DPM-2-Man-Combat-Basha-Bivi-Tent_W0QQitemZ190001594219QQihZ009QQcategoryZ36118QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem for an example. Spent yesterday trying to work out how to set it up properly - hope I've got it right, we'll find out at the show

Log sheets for the vehicle, along the lines of the old army ones are printed off ready for use. All I need to do now is get a copy of the first parade and halt parade services printed off and laminated and we're ready to roll on that score. The 15th draw ever closer; can't wait to get her on the road home then she'll finally feel like mine!!!

Shopping list for Beltring now includes:

    10 ton Jack

Spare spark plugs (NOT Platinum ones apparently..)

Spare bulbs - Head, Side, Tail, Indicator

    Spare drive belts

Container to act as spares/tool box (old rapier missile box or similar)

    Tools (shovel/Pickaxe etc.)

    Any relevant EMER's

This may change once she's home and I've investigated what other spares come with her!! :-) :-)

  11. Been reviewing the kit required to be carried when travelling in the Stalwart and I've come to the conclusion some sort of box is going to b required in the load area; one that can be removed as required when it's necesary to have the floor plates up.

Seems to me the ideal would be something like an old Rapier or Swingfire storage container - fairly resilient plastic material that wouldn't look out of place in the vehicle and capable of containing:

    Spare bulb set

    Spare belts

    Spare plugs

spare points (and if converted to electronic ignition, spare original dizzie)

    Diverse tools

and so forth without breaking up. Am I likely to find one of these at Beltring or do I need to look elsewhere???
