  1. Where did you find the data plate on your vehicle that showed the age?
  2. Weird, I would have thought it took something like 10w-30
  3. I'm in the process of converting my brdm from the original configuration to a Chevy big block, 366. The new engine is 12v. i know some other people have done conversions. How do you handle the voltage difference?
  4. Bump. And pictures would be nice! I have someone willing to give a nv4500 transmission but I'd like to see how the linkages work first.
  5. How much does your bpu1 turret weigh? Any ideas?
  6. How long are they? I'm trying to figure out if another transmission will fit.
  7. Saw it on youtube and liked it. Working to save up for a CVRT!
  8. That explains how mine was damaged. I'm blaming Withams.
  9. I've searched high and low but nothing is out there. anyone know a supplier of spare parts?
  10. OK, interestingly enough it's quite a bit bigger than the Gaz41 and almost as big as the Cummins 5.9 but with only 1/2 the size. Weird to see they also stuck with the manual transmission vs a stick shift. The D245 engine is a 4cylinder. Interesting.
  11. Anyone here familiar with the GAZ-562or SMD-21-08 Diesel engines? They're listed as having been put in during the brdm modernization programs but finding specs on them is hard. Nothing about dimensions or anything else can be found. Nothing. I read about them being out in but details are sketchy. I know the gaz562 is a 3.2l v6 but not much else. I'm trying to find dimensions to see what my options are for engines.
  12. Two smaller gas engines, pretty wide. All I know.
  13. It could be a cracked block, also. Disassembly will yield the problem. delivery is 3 weeks off.
  14. The v8 in it right now has a bad head gasket. I want to change engines for better mpg, more power, and more ease of finding parts! For now I will try to fix the gaz41 to get the vehicle running.
  15. Any ideas? My first option was a Cummins 6bt but it appears it is probably too long. Approximately 200HP. 14" longer than the stock engine. Second option was a Cummins 4bt. Approximately 145 HP and 420 ft-lbs of torque. 4" longer than the stock engine. Third option was to put a 366 big block in it-same size and it will bolt up with only minor modifications. Last was to leave it as is. With the first two I'm trying to go with an automatic transmission. Second two I'd just leave the trans since they would work fine since the transmission is a chevy copy. Your thoughts?
  16. Pardon me, but unexploded, live bombs don't just wash up on shore. They certainly don't float.
  17. Nice! Too bad you don't have anymore for sale.
  18. Nice! Once I finish the Brdm ill start on a sabre.
  19. I dealt with this same issue before I bought my Brdm. to me the Brdm was the better vehicle. Larger, faster, more impressive. Seat more people inside, floats, more common parts. Normal truck axles, normal transmission, chevy 350 style engine, and a lot of choices for engine transplants. Everything's pretty easy accessible from the top or inside. Bad side? Twice the weight of the ferret. Harder to drive solo.
  20. I believe my brdm2 is an Iraqi model. Bought at withams in 2011, still has lot number on the hull
