Ian,
The CES number relates to the Complete Equipment Schedule document, which tells you what equipment the vehicle should be supplied with. There is a CES document for all British vehicles, and the kit covered in the CES is normally just called CES too.

Chris,
A Defender 110 SWB... do you not mean a Defender 90? :?

Stick your hand in the tank, move it up and down and see if the gauge moves. You might have to take it out and then move it, not sure how much room there is to get your hand in the tank on a Dodge.

Neil,
It's on page 2 of Clives link:

Yes, it does have a home, in that dusty shed at the back of the tank museum where nobody ever sees it:
It would look much better parked next to my Fox at Beltring...!

Do you think they'd let me have the Vixen?!
Chris

This one?
They're ok, as long as you don't fall off when trying to get in/out out your sleeping bag.

£10k for a nice Saladin would be a bit of a bargain!
-
Are you sure? Doesn't work for me.

The problem with Saladins (other than the really really REALLY crap brakes) is the lack of them for sale! But yes, they are nice.

It looks like a Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle (CRARRV) to me, this is what one looks like the right way up:
I have never seen a Warrior with a dozer blade on the front.

Paul,
We have several vehicles, and what the others say is true. We're going to sell our 432 because it never gets used and lives too far away. The only saving grace is that it costs nothing to run due to free fuel, however it is wide and slow and not much fun on the roads.
I think you need to add CVR(T) to your poll. We have a Spartan and it is a really wonderful vehicle. It's dead easy to work on, if you need to get to the engine you can take the top off and most things are right there. The engine can be removed in less than an hour, and goes back in just as quickly. The tracks and wheels aren't too heavy, if a bit expensive, but how far do you want to drive it? It goes like a rocket too, I have to slow down for speed cameras! Biggest problem is of course transport though.
That's my vote anyway..!

What ever you buy first try and get something that is already on the road, or not far off. If you start with a wreck which is going to take you a long time to finish you may get bored, fed up and lose interest. We started with an on the road Champ, progressed to a wrecked Ferret and have restored several vehicles since. Get something you can use and enjoy to start with, even if it isn't perfect, then if you're keen move on to more serious projects.

Thats not the first time I have heard of that happening! Lee, do you have the spares etc to fix it? A friend of mine got some transfer boxes from Jacksons so they are about.

It does work, honestly!
They also do a fuel tank repair kit, which includes marine clean and some fuel tank sealer. You clean it out and then pour the sealer in and swish it about, that should get rid of the rust problem?

I quite like having a personnel carrier, they are useful for shows, especially when it rains or very sunny - you can sit in the back with a hot or cold drink, depending on conditions! You can also sleep in the back, which saves putting up a tent. I wouldn't fancy trying to sleep in a turret, I think I'd probably wake up with a sharp bit of metal stuck in my face.
If I were to have an FV600 it'd have to be a Saracen Mk 5 ACV. I did bid on the one below, but someone beat me to it by a hundred quid.

I always use this for cleaning, it works quite well:

John,
Sammy at A+S made a replica, there are photos on his website.

The Stalwart speedo is the same as the Fox/CVRT. I have some NOS ones in the box, if you need one.

Mark,
Richard Banister will be your best bet, and if he doesn't have them then I don't know where to look. Unfortunatley they are 9cvw items and so not common to any other vehicle.

Mark,
This varies depending on the type of round. I have the book here, If I remember I'll scan the pages, unless someone else gets there first.

The paint always makes you feel like you're getting somewhere with a project. Looking good!

MOT exemption depends on vehicle type as well as date of manufacture, since some vehicles are not testable.
Vehicles built before January 1973 are Tax exempt.
When changing the chassis, for example on a Land Rover, the vehicle would still be tax and MOT exempt, it does not need re-registering.
What is a normal wheeled MV?
Chris
-
A lot of MV's are MOT exempt
You can't MOT tracked vehicles.

Ian,
Try http://www.vintagemvmanuals.co.uk for the CES. If it's not listed they may still have it.
