  1. Head gasket blew last week on my standard tilly. Fitting replacement - can anyone advise me on using a sealant. Manual simply suggests grease to allow gasket to be eased off if it needs to be replaced. Would a sealant be a good idea? If so can anyone recommend one. Many thanks Martin
  2. Just taken delivery of a 1943 Morris FAT. Had been stored since 1975 - prior to that had been used in a garage for recovery purposes (hence the crane). If anyone is interested in the crane please contact me as I want to restore it to its original FAT setup (will need be seeking advice from the forum!!) Think crane is probably Harvey Frost but cannot find any markings on it. Cheers Martin
  3. I am looking to transport a 3.5- 4t truck from Kent to Merseyside (270 miles) in April/May. Does anyone know a transport firm that can be recommended? or is aware of any back load possibilities? Any help/ advice welcomed Cheers
  4. I posted on the stationary engine forum http://stationary-engine.net/forum/ Peter Forbes contacted me and was very helpful and was able to provide a gasket for my chore horse. Peter Forbes Email: diesel@easynet.co.uk Hope that is some help
  5. Excellent weekend. Good weather, relaxed atmosphere and good crowd on both days. The West Lancs MVT deserve a pat on the back for all their hard work and organisation. Vehicle numbers were up again this year (80 plus?) with a good range of interesting stuff. Great to see Glynn Beresford winning the best British WW2 softskin with his Morris CS8. The road run into Southport on the coast road was invigorating ( well done Mark L.!!) The spin round the runway was a bonus although the Tilly had lost most of her oil by the end. I assume the commentary was excellent Chris - I can't hear anything when driving the Morris!! I did hear the RC airplane commentator describe you as a "lovely man"! (Apologies again for my choice language in your presence when referring to a colleague! - you know who I mean) Look forward to seeing any photos of the event. Roll on Woodvale 2011
  6. Yes - will be there. Morris and Tilly! Are you doing the commentary again this year Chris? Forecast is looking better particularly for Sunday. Have always enjoyed Woodvale. West Lancs MVT have worked really hard to beat last years excellent turnout of military vehicles.
  7. My Standard Tilly leaks around the crankshaft and timing cover. I think an oil deflector might be missing. I need to remove the fan pulley. I have read that you need to remove the starter motor and jam the fly wheel so that the retaining nut on the fan pulley can be removed. Are there any other ways of doing this? I have read you can use straps to prevent the fan pulley from moving so the retaining nut can be removed. Many thanks ----- Original Message -----
  8. Hi Phil, Morris is fine - went to Normandy with her. Motored really well - although after driving for 9 hours on the way back my hearing was fuzzy!! Are you going to Elvington again in May? Will be booking the Tilly in - excellent show!
  9. Had a mad moment and booked a trip to Arnhem with my Standard Tilly!! Will be leaving home (Southport) on Saturday, ferry from Hull arriving Rotterdam Sunday morning. Booked into a campsite in Arnhem and hope to have 4 days sight seeing. If any of Dutch MV owners want to meet up would be delighted to see you. Heading to Hull via the A59 so look out for us! Hopefully she will be mechanically reliable but if you see us by the side of the road please stop - the kettle will be on and you are welcome to a brew!! Martin
  10. yes it's the same Martin - thanks for your help Peter
  11. Hi Tony, thanks for the quick reply - sounds like yours is working well after all these years. I have got the manual from the 19 set site. I have also got a user handbook from here http://www.howardengineerium.co.uk/BSA.html I am a bit confused now as the user handbook clearly shows gaskets on the cylinder head and for the bottom of the cylinder block. I also retrieved a damaged gasket from it. Doesn't the gasket give the tappet clearance too? ( .012in) in the manual from 19 set site. Thanks for your help Martin
  12. Hi, I am currently restoring a BSA charging set (chore horse) and need gaskets for the cylinder head and for the bottome of the cylinder block. Does anyone know of a possible source? Is it possible to make your own? I also need the retaining pins for the valve stems - any ideas? Also need the air filter. Hope someone can help Many thanks Martin
  13. Hi everyone, Bit late on this one - just caught up with the thread. I own 571 FUF. I have marked it up as Z5813683 based on information from previous owner. However information from RLC museum at Deepcut suggests a different number M5810173 - I thought Morris's would be Z numbers? This is based on the chassis number 2283/4444 (although the plate in the engine bay has been overstamped - can't find any others!) According to Deepcut the post 1949 identity was 33 YS 72 and it was struck off at Ruddington 23rd October 1956. The wooden rear body has a contract number plate 23/6450 which ties in with this information being the first contract run (using information from Wheels and Tracks) Pictures of my Morris can be found at http://www.westlancsmvt.org Martin Ford
  14. Hi Niels I have some 43rd Wessex division templates in jpeg format. I have attached one. I enlarged/ reduced it on a photocopier. I have them on my Morris. It might be slightly different to the one on your champ but could be useful! All the best Martin F
  15. Excellent restoration! It is hard enough keeping them on the road let alone restoring them. Didn't realise there were so many C8 GS out there (6?) Would love to take mine to W&P but too far for the weekend (Couldn't get time off work) Went to Normandy with mine in 2004. Parked at supermarket - when I came out there was another 1!! Sorry you have to let her go Martin Ford
  16. Hi Rick, There's a photo in Wheels and Tracks (No. 30 p28) of an AA gunner on the front mudguard of a C8/AT mkII. dated 1941. Don't know how he's staying on - but you can make out some sort of bracket/seat etc.
