I'll give them a light sand job to knock off any loose paint but they are in very good condition. The paint is think and it looks like someone (maybe the Norwegian Army) sprayed an undercoating underneath. THe undercoating has done a great job of preserving the bottom and the mechanicals.

My truck had the wooden steering wheel on it when I bought it. The spokes are metal so if your good at woodwork, you may be able to find a steering wheel in need of help and repair it.

I'm going to have to sand those parts as I don't want sand from the sandblaster to get into the mechanicals.

Hi Jack, I had this photo from a couple of month ago on my computer. You know, the glovebox door makes one nice cup holder.... oh, and that cup is a very rare optional accessory :lol:. This is what the steering wheel on mine looked like before I sanded and painted it.

Antifreeze? Who needs that? We use it but it isn't necessary here. Right now it is about 60°F (15°C) and very windy. This is the perfect temperature, I wish it was like this all year.

Well, I tried sanding the bed but I wasn't able to do a very good job due to the loops and corners so I decided to sandblast it. I went to the local hardware store and bought a roll of painter's plastic and I covered up the whole truck except for the bed. It is working great. THe picture is a little dark but it gives you an idea of what I did.

Well, it says it cost our government about $18 million USD to build each base and they sold them off to this guy for about $50,000 USD each :shock:. That's our taxpayer money being put to good use :roll:.

There is an old airfield about 1 and a half hours away from me. It is now privatly owned and is being preserved. The airfield is a pilot training base to learn to fly, then from there they would learn to fly fighters, bombers, cargos, etc. The base is Eagle Field located in Dos Palos, California. http://www.eaglefield.net/ They hold a dinner dance every year to help fix up the field. There are about 1 to 3 B25s each year about 5 to 10 Stearman trainers. That is the only base that I know of around here except for the bases still in use.

Jack, You have written a great set of rules there. I think the only way to keep this site fun and respectable, you have to have some strict rules and you touched on that perfectly. Anyone that doesn't like your rules should just leave the forums since you paid for them. Thank you for making such a great site and keeping it enjoyable. Keep up the good work 8)!

Of course it is different since I'm in America but when I went to register my Jimmy, they wanted me to take it to a weigh station, get at least a class b license (possibly even a class a) and a whole lot of other things but that was all dropped when I said I want to register it as a historic vehicle. Here in California, USA, when a vehicle is registered as historic, it is automatically considered an automobile no matter how big instead of it being considered a truck. That is just for paperwork though, I will always see my Jimmy as a truck, not a passenger car :roll:.

I like the open cab more. It just feels more military and I like the free air conditioning with how hot it gets here in the summer :shock:.

That's great! I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with her. I've got to hand it to you guys across the pond, you all take great care of your military vehicles including the military. You should see some of the "farm trucks" out here. They are complete rust buckets.

Well, this is just me but the vehicles that I find desirable are: 1. GMC CCKW (I have one already ) 2. M2 or M7 Directors trailer 3. M29/M29C Weasel 4. jeep (I already have one of those too :roll:) And to think that I am only 15, nearly 16 :shock:. What can I say? I'm getting an early start. Of course neither of the vehicles are "legally" mine because of my age. Another vehicle that I have (will have once it is passed on to me) is a 1948 Chevrolet Thriftmaster pickup. That is at the top of my list for civilian vehicles.

Wow, looking great Jack. Don't you love just love that military grade paint? That stuff is tough and full of lead too. My truck has about 7 to 8 layers of it :shock:. Here are a couple of photos of my truck. I still haven't taken it on the road because my license plates stil haven't arrived after about two and a half months. Good old California for you :roll:. That was fun taking the tailgate so I can sandblast it :?. How do you like the cork in the tail pipe? Keeps the critters out. My truck, as you can probably tell, is a Norwegian return. They sure did take care of it. I believe it was Corné Lauwerijssen who said he saw my truck before it was brought back here to the US about a year ago.

Hello, I'm new to the site but have seen Karoshi, Jack, and many others on cckw.org Well, you site looks nice and I just wanted to say hello. A little about me. I live in California, United States and I have a disease that has no cure, OD fever! I have a 1943 GMC CCKW 352 and a 1945 Ford GPW. The jeep is in a frame off restoration and the truck is in a minor restoration (It runs and the mechanicals are perfect. Just fixing some rust, replacing missing parts, and painting.) It wil be nice chatting with you all and I look forward to it. --Nick
