  3. the rockwell was never fitted the chassisis 6" wider and the chassis hight to the top from the ground is 4" lower plus the channel that makes the chassis is 14" high x 6" wide , came of a 8 wheeled tipper, all in all a bad match:argh: but its very strong worm and crown same as scammell . i have herd that the diffs may be interchangeable with scammell ones:confused:

  8. hi 6x6 yes it is a restoration project, mine, she is the first one i bought .when i bought her with a mate he put up the money i did the work. we got her for £600 and the person we bought her from said that he had to have the rear axle back plus alot of other stuff. Hence she was shelved and my mate lost intrest. i then bought his share and took her home . i tryed to get an axle but could not find one for love nore money so bought a foaden double drive rockwell to graft into her (a major undertaking) . however over the last 12 years i have been collecting the bits needed to do her,:-D still short of some bits but im getting there.

  13. yes i know what you mean but if it is any thing like the cars i work on the regs that apply are those at the date of manufacture and if it has been registered abroad its all differant even if of british manufacture. i was wondering if that would also apply to american vehicles eg fire engines . i have seen american engine in britain with a red light it displayed an alabamar plate + english plates.:??? still did any british recovery vehicle display a red becon at any period , i am still none the wiser?:???

  16. mine came out of a foden i cut of the ends and welded on mine. it has lasted well ,on bolting them in i put rubber between the straps and tank as that is where most of the rust was :-D
  17. thanks for that. i was talking to a chap the other day about the rolls engine, he enquired about the vehicle i was putting it into ,he them said that when he worked in the reme works at warminster they took delivery of some scammells and that in 1950 they were classed as heavy salvage vehiles and as such they had a red becon not an orange one but were later down graded to medium recovery and had a orange becon. i have spoken to a serving MP and he said that if it is so then i can have a red becon as long as it is not used to to deceive or misslead as i have never seen one with a red becon i would like to know if this was correct.:???
