  6. i replaced my rear axle a short time ago for a better one, the walking beams were worn on the bronze bushes the outerbush and the inner bush .because of the wear the beams lent inwards and when the beams moved up they would hit the leaf springs breaking the straps . I would like to replace the bushes befor i loose the momentum and then refit it to no nuts but i am a bit stuck, if i take it all apart it may be some time befor i can make the parts,so i was wondering if any one else has done one? if not dose any one know the sizes and what bronze they should be. yours humbly gps :bow::bow:
  7. your cousin cam round and had a look at pics ,:yay:he liked:dancinggirls:he wishes his computer was working  so i posted story about brothers gearbox. i took dictation , could not keep up and had to tell him to slow down.still i think it makes sence. his bellhousing looks good had to check that we could turn thrust bearing leaver round to turn it into a pull insted of a push so the clutch will work, and it will :-D he is now a happy boy full steam ahead.
  8. code 5 lead is best melts into bars well .could only get ofcuts but every bit counts whats on your garage roof:bow::bow:
  9. hi all. My mates scammell had a big problem with the gearbox.he went to shunt his lorry around ready for a show and it jamed up on the drive.we had to leave it there and go without it. it was such a shame to leave it behind that we returned to see if it could be fixed.on looking deeper into the problem we found the input shaft had fused with the counter top shaft so the four of us reluctently returned to the rally. and swiftly entered the beer tent to mourn the fallen comrade.on further inspection after removing the gearbox my mates brother (a commercial engineer )found that the grub screw on the oil baffle pipe had fallen out thus there was no oil geting to the needle roller bearing in the top shaft ,thus overheating and fusing the dog clutch and shafts together ,what a mess :cry: . the funny thing is all through this it had good oil pressure.sadly this could not be repaired and second hand parts were luckily found :-D . a lot of work but its alright now :yay:
  10. Radiomike 7 hi mate thoughs switches are the same as i mentioned but mine seem to have only two conections ,whereas the head lights have three one switchis conected to the red light not sure where the other goes.:???
  11. what you are saying does make sense, behind the the metal pannel used to mount the rear electrical sockets there is a bank of relays and next to the sockets some switches like the high low light switch in the cab ,and a small green and red light mounted on the near side .do you think this could be some kind of signaling to the cab as there was some lights mounted on the dash also red and green.
  12. as you all seam to be hardened travelers what should the gearbox pressure be , mine is 15 psi cold and 11 psi hot running on the road, 8 psi on tickover hot ? i put in the box SAE 90 is this good i was told to use SAE 140 if the box gets noisy but what is noisy in a scammell ? :-D
  13. i must say i change the affected bolts as soon as i get home and do not treat it as a perminent fix, as i have seen the result of doing this. Not pretty:nono:
  14. im sorry to say i cant get the socket cap of to look at the pins ,there is no board by drivers seat :???
  15. Why you got any scrap you want me to haule, got up to 14 ton and still got space for more, started swopping the iron for lead takes up less room and is heavier :cool2:
  16. you know it was only the one it was just missfortune it was connecked to the others. besides they are now half lenth the other half is still in the ground.Kept BT in work, took them three days and a closed road to sort it out.:shake: BIG BILL:argh::argh::argh::argh:You have to pay if at fault, yes i was driving it was the vans fault anyone would think he had never seen a convoy of scammells, and where theres one theres more:cool2: next time ill hit the van and mount it as a hood orderment :-D
  17. Hi all ,thanks for all the comments and tec data i am now more confused than ever. there is allso a electrical socket on the rear of the lorry in yellow alli ,it has been disconected what is it for ?plus a two pine like on land rovers i think this is for a lead light possibley:???
  18. thor has the XL all round ,the tread seam to clog up in mud and the only way to clear them is to spin the wheels fast.because of the wider tyers the ground pressure is less so it dose not cut in like the bar grips in the mud, but in the dry they mark the ground less and the ride is improved and none of that jerking steering when turning at speed.im still undecided :???
  19. i may be stupid but i have a nagging question my scammell explorer chassis no 7006 contract 3724 WO. should it have an inter-vehicle starting or slave socket, if so where should it be mounted. :???
  20. N.O.S thank for the advice i have noteced that there seams to be a few bolts that are interchangeable but only one way ,and if put under to much load will strip so i tend to only do this as a last resort.
  21. im sorry to say you will need help, I used a JCB teleporter and even then dont rush, its heavy and it hurts when it pinches your fingers. still no pain no gain
  22. thats a bit sad . i have sean a few with the new mitchelin MX,about £65 each so i am told. but i dont really like the look of them. dose any one els have an opinion ? would like to hear.
  23. lunch was pushing it a bit had to settle for tea ,but the pint tasted good after a well exacuted job:thumbsup:
  24. I made the stands the same as a set of reme ones made for this job. the hardest thing was getting every thing ready to do the job in one day. Nearly all of the spring straps were broken on mine too. I made some new ones, instead of a counter sunk bolt on the straps i used a 10mm coach bolt. I disassembled the springs and used a burnishing pad to clean them up and ground off any burrs or divets then heavily greased the leaves and reassembled. It now rides like a new truck:-D All in all a good job, still got the front to do but am saving that for when I take the engine out.
  25. Here is a few pics of no nuts having her rear end changed for a better one
