  1. Steve I'll send you a PM (might take a minute or two)
  2. Steve yes please, I only have Volume 1 1951. Love looking at your pics. Over the years I have enviously looked over from Crow Point to see the goings on across the water. Although once I was lucky two DUKWs arrived out of the sea sped along the shoreline & back into the water which must have saved a bit on the voyage!
  3. Thank you Steve much appreciated.
  4. Those are super pictures Steve, thank you for sharing.
  5. Welcome Steve. Did you have any encounters with any variants of the Humber 1 Ton?
  6. The diagram (Fig 1) I posted is for the later joint arrangement using Birfield joint that was introduced in 1974. The instructions state "Assemble the Birfield joints (item 1 to 10) as shown in Fig 1" Other than a list of components there are no more specific instructions. But I'm not quite sure how much of the assembly has been removed. I assume you are talking about the shaft 3? Which end of it are you trying to mate? There is a bit of coverage on Pig joints here: http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/PIGINAPOKE.pdf
  7. I assume that it would have had the original Chobham joints which have captive articulating pads. The problem being that the pads can be lost due to failure of the retaining clips. This was a major issue in NI when at any one time up to 80 Pigs could have been out of service with wheel station problems. So did you find loose pads in there? The problem with my rear axle was a collapse of the pinion wheel in the diff. I concluded that to transplant this would require a major dismantling & setting up again. So I transplanted the whole axle assembly. It was not as simple as that because the donor axle was missing a complete wheel station. So I transferred this across before the transplant. Its 10+ years ago since I did it, I think the only problem was getting the female part of the bearing to remain in place whilst trying to introduce the splined shaft. If you were slightly off true the bearing would go further off alignment & not mate. So I assume this is what you are up against now. Is the hub still on or have you removed that to make it a less weighty thing to align. Don't assemble the hub into its position without using an alignment sleeve otherwise the hub seals will get crushed. The diagram below is from the Birfield fitting instructions. I have split it to get more detail. If its not readable PM me with you email & I'll send it to you.
  8. Tom the penny has just dropped as I have looked at your past posts. I see you have 11 BK 17. Did you not simply(!) transplant the complete Mk 2 axle to replace the complete assembly or are you just transplanting the wheel stations?
  9. Tom I assume you have Birfield joints if you have splines each end of the axle shafts. Are you talking about the inner or outer shaft? Have you any pictures of where you have got to? I have a sectional diagram of the Birfield arrangement if you want that.
  10. Hello Steve welcome again. Hope you are enjoying the book
  11. The sales of the vehicles was dealt by someone in Surrey I was led to believe not Hanningfield themselves. But 25 years ago you could not officially buy exMOD armour. There were six Ferrets that were at shows in those days were ex-Hong Kong Police imported by Mike Hoffman in Reading. As the end user was not the MOD there was no problem. At that time I viewed a large number of ex-UDR Mk 3 Shorlands at an ordnance dealer's yard. I was told I would need MOD clearance to make a purchase, which I was unlikely to be granted. However there was a single Mk 1 & the end user was not the MOD. So I bought it. I believe some of these were moved on to Budge. I think Philip of Dunsfold made an application to purchase one of these & despite running a museum was turned down. I think within the next year he was able to purchase one because the rules changed. ISTR there was a test case when a Pig was purchased from MacGregor's. There was some sort of fuss that it had been sold without permission. I think the defence was made that a Pig was not an 'A' vehicle but was based on a 'B' vehicle. Likewise a Shorland was not an 'A' vehicle. It seemed to be at that point rules were relaxed & anybody seemed able to buy more or less anything. It didn't mean that AFVs etc would not be required to be cut up because numbers had to be culled not because of MOD intransigence but to comply with the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. To placate the On-Site Inspection Agency vehicles that were due to be destroyed had large blue crosses painted on them? I didn't see any blue crosses on the Hanningfield ones though. I have a copy of the treaty in front of me it seems to have been ratified in 1989.
  12. I remember enquiring about availability but was told that they could not be sold & must be scrapped. :undecided:
  13. As this was 1992 I wonder whether it was a Mk 1 or Mk 2? Other than the specialist Pigs, the run of the mill versions were declared obsolete: Mk 1 April 1991 Mk 2 April 1993
  14. Oh I missed that then  Lets hope someone has a picture, I would be interested to know its identity, although I notice all the Ferrets had their registration marks obliterated.
  15. Not the same as the advertised one but similar idea from a 1941 pamphlet. The proportions for the depth look a bit too shallow.
  16. Looks very similar to Lamp, electric, No.4 although that only had sliders for red or green over the lens.
  17. Simon I don't think there were any Scorpions there, although I'm none too interested in tracked vehicles. But if I had seen a Pig I can assure you would have used up the whole roll of film in preference to the Ferrets
  18. Here are a couple of shots there in 1992. Should have some more somewhere.
  19. Tyler here is the circuit diagram & component layout of your amplifier from a Westminster. It looks to be from a W15AM & rated at 2.5 watts of audio output. The board from the W15FM is very similar although that is rated at 2 watts. I have the component lists if needed.
  20. Yes I have Matt, lots of Ferrets from GW1.
  21. Tyler I think I have a pristine 4-way Larkspur junction box going back to the time when I thought I might construct the installation. I also may have some Eddystone diecast boxes if you wanted to transplant the guts into a new box.
  22. Yes as I have said that is your AF amplifier. I think you will find it is the audio board from a Pye Westminster. I have the manuals somewhere.
  23. Back to Jeeps. As a boy I used to live in South Devon. I can well remember various Nissen type huts on Bovey Heath full of stores. I went inside one with my father & found boxes of mouldy leather items, holsters I think. But we just left them nobody seemed to think of stealing them or vandalising the huts. But there were stories that there were Jeeps in the area buried in the event of the invasion failing so that they could not be used by the Germans, but at the time nobody seemed much interested. That must have been early-mid 1950s & I can remember we used to visit Slapton Sands & seeing the whole hillside devoid of greeness just burnt trees stumps.
  24. Tyler I don't think there is any need to look for a Larkspur intercom. I think if you take the lid off the diecast box you will find the intercom amplifier is in there. So you just need to look for headsets etc The picture I posted was the set up I saw in several dozen Shorlands 25 years ago. I never had the chance to take the lid off, mine doesn't have any evidence of that set up as it was of an earlier time.
  25. Will we being still paying £25 per vehicle for what Tom Kelly, managing director of owners Arena Leisure and Northern Racing, said: “Folkestone suffers from out-dated facilities"
