  1. The ban is on the sale of NEW petrol and diesel vehicles. It'll be a very sad day
  2. Thanks for your replies. Looks like I'll have to remove the ignition panel and take out the barrel, then re-try fitting it. Won't attempt that til the autumn when the show season is over.
  3. Our club, "D Coy" came over from N.I. Was our first time at the show. We were impressed. Everyone was friendly, with a relaxed atmosphere. And the standard of the portaloos was excellent, far better than the toilets at war and peace last year.
  4. I lined up the stud in the bottom of the barrel with the recess I could see down the centre of the switch. Is this the correct way to fit the barrel?
  5. I recently bought a new ignition lock barrel for our ferret. After fitting it I cannot remove the key when the switch is in the Locked position. It can only be removed when the switch is ON or OFF, but then I cannot move it to the Locked position. Any advice on how to resolve the issue would be much appreciated

  7. Thats great thanks, as some members of my club plan to arrive on the morning of Wednesday 5th and may well have already booked the ferry.
  8. Please confirm the dates military vehicles can arrive at the show . see below extract from an email I received from Nelz in December. "You may arrive from Wednesday 6th and stay till Monday 11th July 2017."
  9. To save me a 20 mile round trip just to check, can someone please tell me; are the front sidelight bulbs a single or double contact?
  10. I have the history cards, but although the Ferret's DIS was 1959, the record cards only commence in 1967. I emailed Bovvie and they told me they don't have any further records other than what I already have. They did say I could visit and see if they have any photos of it, so that will definitely be on my to do list. The cards show a couple of conversion codes, but I don't think they are for it changing to a Mk 1/2, so the turret may well have been fitted by some previous civvy owner. I was hoping someone using HMVF would know.
  11. Hi. I'm the joint owner of this Ferret for about the last year and a half. It was originally a Mk 1/1, but at some point it has been converted to a Mk 1/2. If anyone can provide me with any information at all about it, it would be really appreciated.
  12. I emailed one of the show staff after I returned home. Below is a copy of that email. Please see below my comments and complaints about this year's show. I would hope that they are regarded as constructive criticism by your organisers, in order that the show can improve for next year and also that more thought will be given to us exhibitors in relation to our travel plans and limitations we have to impose due to ferry times, work commitments etc. As someone who has attended the show for over 10 years, I'd like to provide you with some feedback regarding this year's show. My group travelled over 450 miles to get to the show, by ferry and road, at a fairly considerable cost to us. As the show organisers (eventually) stated that no-one could leave until 6.00am on the Sunday morning, I changed my return ferry booking to accommodate you. This cost me another £75. It also meant that several of my group had to take another day off work, as we wouldn't be arriving home until Monday. You had stated this was because it wasn't fair on the paying public, who would also be staying late on the Saturday evening to view a fireworks display. I struggle to understand this logic, as the show closed to the public at tea time and there certainly was no fireworks display! My party would not have been leaving, as we have done in previous years, until around 8pm. Therefore we would definitely not have been letting the public down. Also, I noted that quite a few exhibitors packed up and left by Saturday evening, some 10 to 12 hours before your stated leaving time. Taking all of the above into consideration I feel that at future shows, you should allow exhibitors to leave from tea time on the Saturday, otherwise I can see lots of them not coming back. I noted that there weren't as many exhibitors at this year's show, with far less heavy armour there. And what happened to all the battle re-enactments with all their fantastic pyrotechnics that previous shows have been famous for? They were conspicuous by their absence. I also noted there were less traders stalls, so unlike in previous years, I found few that were of interest to me. In relation to the toilets and showers, I'm really struggling to work out what my £10 has paid for. The toilets were definitely no cleaner than last year's and I saw a cockroach in one of the cubicles! As for the showers, they were cold most of the time and the drains blocked up, meaning I had to stand in a shower tray full of water. Regarding booking in, it was good that the office opened earlier than advertised, as we were tired after a long journey and just wanted to get our tents set up asap. However, when I went to book in, the chap behind the desk insisted for several minutes that I owed another £60 for two extra adult passes and wouldn't believe me when I told him I'd paid everything online. This caused me some embarrassment in front of other exhibitors until he eventually realised I had pre-paid in full. To be fair to him, he did apologise once he realised his error. Perhaps leaving space on your online booking form to add the names of any additional members of my party could help rectify this problem. To sum up, myself and my friends did enjoy the show, though, for the reasons stated above, not as much as in previous years. Please take on board my comments, and no doubt those of others who have probably written to you, and make next year's show one to remember for all the right reasons. ................... I received a reply which said that feedback was appreciated and taken seriously and that they had already begun addressing some of the issues which people had raised. We'll see!
  13. I had expert help from an ex armoured regiment mate. Invaluable. Had most of it dismantled in a day (5 hours) reassembly took about another 12 man hours. Tips - take lots of photos. Don't lose the needle roller bearings, there's about 28 in each planet gear! When putting the 2 tracta forks back together and fitting the gaiter and gaiter ring, ensure the assembly is horizontal. We initially had it hanging down as it was easier to fit the bolts on the gaiter ring, but when they were tightened up there was little movement in the hub/chrome ball. At first thought we needed more shims, but then realised the cause of the problem. When refitting the needle rollers in the planet gears, put one at the top first, this keeps a nice gap at the bottom where you can then start to easily fit the rest of them. I would never have attempted it on my own!
  14. I've just tried searching for this book, rarer than chicken teeth!
  15. Would these photos help you Jim? I've recently replaced 3 oil seals on the front n/s. I have some more photos which have not yet been uploaded from my camera. If you think they'll be useful, let me know
  16. I don't see code 0122 on my history cards so must assume that the turret was fitted post-service. Ta
  17. Thanks to you both for your replies. I had been wondering if the conversion codes meant it had been changed in-service to a Mk 1/2, but it looks more likely the turret was fiited after it left the army. I'd love to know it's history prior to 1967 but don't know how to go about finding it out
  18. Hi Can someone please help me to decipher my Ferret's record cards? I can figure out some of it, but I'm baffled by other parts, eg the "code changes" and "conversion codes". Ta
  19. Hi. I joined this forum last summer, but with one thing and another I haven't previously got round to introducing myself. Apologies. I own a 1975 Land Rover 101 GS and have a recently become a half owner of a 1959 Daimler Ferret, so am finding the HMVF forums very useful. Regards Jim
