I reckon there would be more Zil's on the road over here, if they were available,(easily), with a gs body. I mean, 99% of prospective owners ,I'm guessing,, wouldn't have a use for a tanker body,(unless then could fill it with fuel,- they could then get to the end of their road, without being frightened of running out of fuel................ :lol: ) Still an impressive bit of kit, though,..like most of the ruskie stuff, seen over here. Isn't 'Battery', a collective name given to more that one gun 'on site'? Certainly, in books you read 'battery fire',- and that normally means, a barrage, ie pre battle of el alamein. Further 'proof', comes from Ian Hoggs, Barrage, the guns in action. The below is laying out a british field regt, of 1944/45. as a model. -quote,"The field regiment,a lieutenant-colonel's command,was sub-divided into three gun batteries and a headquaters battery. The HQ carried clerks,cooks,armourers,regimental policemen and all those odd bodies whose presence is vital but generally unsung.It also contained the adjutant and his command post and a party of surveyors. As well as the above, also contained within, communication signallers,(wireless)to the gun batteries,to the next higher HQ, and to other field reg.within the Div. The gun batteries each had eight guns: 25pdr,with a max range of 13,400 yards,........" - end of quote. Hope this is of some interest. PS, Jack, 2nd article in CMV, is as good as the 1st. congrats. Jack, A good idea of the universal/bren carrier when used for FOO use can be found in Peter Ryder's book, Guns Have Eyes. This also contains a coulpe of pic's of destroyed ones, one by 88mm shell,.EEEKKKKK ! and one by mine. If you can find a copy, well worth a read. Andy

Just an idea,...... how about a HMVF 'get together', at Bovi, :?: :?: somewhen, later in year,(once the shows are over) Be a way of putting names to faces, etc. The last time I was down there, I got talking to a 'tankie',- he was ex 79th div,- a crocodile flamer.......He only 'opened up', when I recognised the badge he was wearing,........a very brave, and totally genuine guy. Jack Hargreaves,.......Out of Town,..............Now that talking QUALITY TV. Fred Dibnah,-( may god rest his soul ), a real genuine,'spades a spade', sort of guy, very sadly missed...... I'd add to the two above, the origional One Man and His Dog,.not the sad travisty that it has now become. Having read Jacks books,- the others that (I feel,) match his enthusiasum for nature, and have become to 'uncontrolable,- by the powers that dictate what is shown on tv,- are Phil Drabble and Robin Page. I guess, living in the so-called "modern age", these sorts of programes are not "popular", - or as cheap to make as " celebraty big - get me out of" type 'life-style' shows;..............ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I feel sorry for modern young people of today, -cripes, that makes me seem OLD, ....take them away from bright lights, 24 hour entertainment,-laid on entertainment, mind...they can't be expected to find it themselves, and junk food,...........and the majority of them wouldn't be able to handle it Generalising I know,.................but, at times, it seems like the simple things people value, open spaces, woodland, room to breath, are just the sort of things those in "power", seem to be frightened of. Hi all, I'm looking for a firm that produced wood imitation weapons,.looking for an enfield pistol, and deact ones, (that I've seen,) are way out of my price range. Its only going to sit in holster, not 'waved about',- so I guess, a good 'toy' imitation would do, at a pinch. Idea's, info appreciated. Cheers, Andy
