1 QDG 50th Anniversary Parade - Cardiff (MVT Organised event)

Recommended Posts

As advertised in this months "Green Sheet" included with the MVT magazine Windscreen hence I assume MVT membership is a requisite.

1st The Queens Dragoon Guards are celebrating their 50th anniversary ( the merging of the KDG and The Queens Bays) at the end of July at Cardiff Castle.

The QDG will obviously provide the more modern vehcle but are particularly looking for the following types of historic vehicle:

Centurion

Cheiftain

Scimitar

Bedford RL

Landrover SIIA

Landrover Lightweight

Makralon Landrover

Austin Champ

Stalwart Mk 1

Stalwart Mk 2

Saladin

Saracen Mk 6 with beehive

Ferret Mk 1

Ferret MK 2

Humber Pig

Scimitar

Spartan

Arena/Conflict markings acceptable are BAOR, Borneo, Aden, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Beirut, Gulf 1991, Norway, Balkans, Iraq 2003 and Afghanistan.

No pay is available for the vehicles but the QDG can provide fuel, limited equipment support & secure storage for the vehicles as well as equipment to minimise damage to Cardiff Castle from oil leaks, spills etc. plus food and accommodation for the owners/crew.

Appropriate deac weapons may be taken BUT must be declared, logged and securely stored during 'Silent Hours' - QDG will provide facilities for this.

It would be appreciated if crews could wear accurate period clothing for their vehicles. - some regimental attire will be available from QDG

Agenda is given as:

July 30, PM - Vehicles arrive and briefing at Maindy barracks.

July 31, AM (Early) - Move in convoy to Cardiff Castle and set up for the day. Evening time - use vehicles as backdrop to an All Ranks tea party in the Castle. After party return to Maindy Barracks.

Aug 1st, AM - Depart for home

Any one interested should contact the local MVT area secretary, Ernie Wiliams at the address or phone number given in the "Green Sheet" article. He will pass your details onto the Major in charge of the event who has the final say either way.
