DAF YA engine swap

snowtracdave

Question

Think I'll have to ask here 'cos there ain't a section for Dutch vehicles ! Now I know this will upset a purist or three but we are considering (only considering mind) taking out the Hercules petrol and plumbing in a diesel unit to the YA . The Dutch YA owners club mention conversions using 475 and 575 DAF motors or even the 6litre as used in the YA328 . Anyone on the forum any experience / suggestions or thoughts on this ? Thanks .

Dave

Hi Dave,

I can understand you want to swap the thirsty Hercules petrol engine for a diesel, and although it can be done I understand it is not a straight swap over.

If it is the fuel bills you are concerned about, you might want to consider fitting an LPG fuel kit. This conversion is quite popular in the Netherlands and typically lowers the fuel bill by 50%. I've read about specialists offering LPG conversion kits in the UK, so you might want to contact some of them to see if this could be the way to go.

Good luck,

Hanno from Holland

There are a couple of Dutchland guys go to the War and Peace show every year in their Dafs and their business is LPG conversions if you are going this year I can point then out to you, they stay in the America's field just down from Lee normally, one of them has a radio Daf and a little caravan, very very nice people

Thanks guys . I'm hoping to get to W&P but the way my plans frequently go down the pan I'll only be certain when I'm actually walking round the place ! I've seen LPG conversions spoken about several times and that's a definite possibility but I believe that over here it would have to be professionally installed . ( I've recently read some articles in the motorcaravan / caravan mags saying that the insurers won't touch anything that's DIY ).

D :)
