  1. TED the RAF vehicle list was given to me when some of the offices at SPADEADAM were been cleared out and put on disc there is no mention of who compiled it other than a MOD library stamp on the cover AS TO THE QUESTION about BT been on trials vehicles its with out a doubt used for a number of purposes as shown on vehicles used in NORTHERN lRELAND and mention on this forum else were
  2. RICHARD l must have miss under stood because if you look you can see ARMY vehicles transferred to the RAF and been re numbered A vehicle been used by the RAF for user trials generally carried a RAF number a case in question was the mini moke sent to the RAF then returned to the trials unit a RARDE were it a was numbered BT REGARDS WALLY
  3. On the subject of the BT NUMBERS if l under stand you correctly you are saying when a vehicle transferred from say the army to the raf it got a bt number not a raf one
  4. A vehicle with a BT registration number is normally a vehicle on user trials or in some cases one sent to northern lreland ?
  5. SIMON the white numbers on the side of the bonnet were they in side or out if on the inside they could be the overhaul reference numbers for the work done like a job card number the same with the one on the axle a means of tracking were the work was done if there was a problem on your data plate inside the engine compartment on the bulk head are the words overhaul or b/overhaul B398 STAMPED ON THE plate if so do you know what that means as to the blue paint l have no idea some one may have painted it blue then some one else repainted it green while it was in the hands of a former civilian owner
  6. SIMON look at it this way your CHAMP is a blank canvas as far as its military history is concerned and you have many options as to markings and were it could have served here are just a few KOREA EGYPT TRANS JORDAN KENYA GERMANY and the UK TO NAME A FEW have you seen a copy of a leaflet called MV 1 TRUCK 1/4 TON GS 4X4 CARGO & FFW AUSTIN BY iso publications 137 Westminster bridge road SE 1 7 HR if not I can copy it for you REGARDS WALLY
  7. SIMON Georgetown was a central vehicle depot a place to receive military vehicles not as such a regiment just a depot to hold and issue vehicles to regiments and units all vehicles had its own RV number every vehicle its own RECEIPT VOUCHER NUMBER BY the late 1960s a lot of CHAMPS were in deed serving with TA units there are no records of who the CHAMPS served with the only way is to find a picture of it in service REGARDS WALLY
  8. SORRY l will rightly stand corrected once had to sit through a ARMY film on the role of the HUMBER PIG the commentator would keep calling it a AUSTIN Then later the there was a video made about THE ROYAL CORPS OF TRANSPORT called the final drive and in it again they called the HUMBER PIG a AUSTIN
  9. SORRY do not have any of your truck but I might have some of the FV vehicle lay out drawings REGARDS WALLY
  10. just googled AUSTIN MEMORIES there are pictures of the assembly line showing of AUSTIN CHAMPS it shows the engine been dropped in looks like sky blue to me THE AUSTRALIAN ARMY ones had engine numbers from 57700 TO 58207
  11. l think l know a bit about the development of the B RANGE ENGINE and its history the attached page from a file dated December 1945 even then a replacement for the jeep was on the cards and the engine selected ln fact the replacement was given the title of car 4x4 category xv1 reading the requirements its the CHAMP to a T as to the CHAMP in service with the AUSTRALIAN ARMY information is limited this subject has come up twice when l was involved in the books of PAT WARE and GUS GOWER l still have copy of the ministry of supply contact ledger showing details of the CHAMP contract if l can find it
  12. AS far as l know all the CHAMPS delivered to the AUSTRALIAIN ARMY had engines built by AUSTIN one of the ways to tell is these had five digit engine numbers were as rolls Royce engines had four also the rolls had a aluminium cylinder head so l think you may find that the champs were delivered with sky blue engines from the factory and not black l have only ever worked on one ROLLS built B 40 engine painted black and that was in a 81 inch wheel base landrover
  13. l think the attached may help you understand the principal of the split skirt piston
  14. ROBIN as far as l remember the chassis number is at the front in the same place as you describe l remember BEN crawling under the one at BEVERLEY in the dark so keen to get it if you speak to him give him my best wishes REGARDS WALLY
  15. ROBIN there was talk in the early days of making all of the 24 volt 101s capable of radio fitment l know that l have the original spec file and l am thinking it was mentioned in there is it me or is the d at the end of forward miss shaped secondly l could be wrong but control does not look right as it appears to have been abbreviated but l am sure 101 owners will correct me if l am wrong but look at the details you have 1 its 24 volt appears to have started life as a GS then upgraded to the FFR role l think l may have met BEN SMITH AT BEVERLEY l think he has a interest in the FORWARD CONTROL 101 PROTOTYPES FITTED with the powered trailer2 REGARDS WALLY
  16. MARTIN you in your first post you said you thought it may have been a ministry of supply vehicle and l replied that it was since then l have looked in to the NGY registration numbers and yes these numbers were issued to the MINISTRY OF SUPPLY ln a 1957 M O S vehicle sale these are just a few of the ones with NGY numbers sold lot 369 FORD popular NGY 45 lot 711 BEDFORD prime mover NGY 435 lot 714 Bedford van NGY 156 AS you can see this number NGY was used on a mixture of types of vehicles not only LANDROVERS
  17. MARTIN IF your landrover was at the FVRDE fighting vehicles research and development establishment CHERSTSEY or the MVEE military vehicle engineering establishment CHOBHAM the reason for me using CHERTSEY is that as your series one may have been there when it was called FVRDE CHERTSEY which it was stopped being titled as in 1970 from 1970 it was titled MVEE COBHAM as yours is a series one l think it is unlikely it would show up in any records after 1970 if it had been there if your landrover was there when the annual audit took place you may be lucky if it was not then there is no way of finding out all l can say is that the NGY registration numbers were on some of the vehicles that came through CHERTSEY MARTIN hope this explains the position briefly REGARDS WALLY
  18. HI and welcome MARTIN NGY registration numbers were ministry of supply allocated numbers l have records of NGY numbered vehicles been at CHERTSEY
  19. 1948 seems the year for disposing of german equipment lot 687 went for £150 pounds good condition LOT 1531 is for you TED it made £90 pounds with the Austin and morris poor condition
  20. DEGSY THIS had crossed my mind and as they were around before the use of the CV system of identifying captured vehicles also there condition excellent nearly new not in my day we took these items to bits last ones l did where the UAZ 469 also why use a civilian registration numbers THIS SALE WAS in march 46 the war had only been over six months
  21. HERE we are the lot numbers 2133 and 2134 the ZUNDAPP is classed as excellent and made £100 pounds the DKW WAS also classed as excellent and made £52 pounds note the registration numbers
  22. DUSTY is quite right amongst all the ARMY NAVY and RAF vehicles going through these sales also were vehicles from other government departments like the GPO GAS BOARD and others another registration number is CT that appears now and again l am going to post something that has been puzzling me it concerns two german made motorcycles sold in 1946 one a DKW the other a ZUNDAPP both with civilian registration number when l can find the page in the relevant catalogue in the hope some one has any thoughts on how they ended up in this sale
