## SP ## numberplates

Question

Posted

Are all military registrations of the format ##SP## for 'special projects' (ie prototype) vehicles?

Saw one recently and was wondering what it was...looked a bit like a Bulldog but with more road wheels. Anyone able to look them up?

Hi Stone.

No problems with change of number.

99SP12 is a V.S.E.L. MCV80 Warrior Armoured Personnel carrier.( VSEL being Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Limited)

Probably built on Scotswood Road, Newcastle (my home town) or Vickers Leeds.

I take no credit for knowing this.

The info is taken from a publication from those clever 'Data Fleet' people who had the foresight to list all these things in the nineties.

Hope this is of some use to you. (99SP13 wasn't used).

Best wishes,

Mike.
