abn deuce
Some 80 years before the channel tunnel was finally completed these two brothers thought they a solution with a underwater train , sadly the depths were greater than expected and this is the only photo taken shortly before Andre plunged into the English channel , luckily he survived and later was credited with creating a successful line of amphibious automobiles. Tony B
The RN sumbmariners, Sahara Desert branch! As to a guess, a fall of shot spotting tower for a rail gun?
Bystander
"Someone has spiked my wagon" Obviously something quite heavy as it appears to be constructed on a (locomotive) tender chassis. The chassis looks continental, is the soldier in German uniform? Some sort of wireless transmitter with a telescopic aerial?
Great War truck
Well done all. Here is another photo of it: It is indeed a spotter tower for a railway gun. You can anticipate all sorts of possible problems, worst of all would be going under a bridge, but i wonder what affect the recoil would have on the observer when the thing was fired. abn deuce
I say its rather darn inconvenyent needing to find a suitable slope everytime you need to elevate the gun !:-D
abn deuce
Look like the recoil would be handled by the twin out rigger stabilizers on each of the gun cars , I d expect the mast telescopes to below the height of the railing on top of the rail car to allow for bridges and such. Tony B
AHH, so the second picture shows what happens when you don't allow for recoil on rail Gun! :nut:
