Joris
The small village of Heelsum played a very small but important role in Operation Market Garden, two of the drop / landing zones were within it's boundary. The village was liberated for aprox 24 hours too after which all airbornes were off to Arnhem / Oosterbeek. After the battle was over and the Germans defeated they constructed their own war memorial out of the things left behind on the dropzones / battlefields.
