aqv33 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Hi Gary, The operating instructions for my Coles Mk 3 as found inside the lid of the box are: 1. The compass consists from the top of: (a) Verticle pointer (gnomen) (b) The shadow pointer. © The compass plate. (d)The date slider. 2.Clamp compass on car with compass plate reading zero in line of progression of the car. 3. Set the plate parallel to the ground. 4. Set slider on the appropriate date and note the equation of time. 5. Set watch at true local sun time by adding or subtracting longitude correction and equation of time. 6. Set compass plate on bearing reqired. 7. Set shadow pointer to the watch time on the curve for the right lattitude (reset every 15 minutes or less) 8. Steer the car so that the shadow of the gnomen falls on the shadow pointer. Please note however it is only designed to be used up to 39 degrees north.I have photos but not sure how to put them on this message. If you have an email address I could send them. Hope this helps.
