25 pounder
this torch was given to me by family of a late veteran , who served with Royal Sgnal Corps. They told me it belonged to his equipment , can anyone confirm , that this is a " military " torch ?
Tony B
That torch could date anytime from about 1914 on. It is a type the military used but could have been private purchase. Any markings on it? What makers name is on it, Pifco comes to mind, or possibly Ever Ready?
antarmike
it is a light sabre, be very careful not to push the button if it is pointing at anyone you care about....

Tony B
Yes, used at a guess twenties early thirties. This type were used during Great War, mostly private purchase. It would be OK.

Tony B
Your welcome! Glad to find use for esoteric knowledge. If you want to sell let me know, another thing that got worked into the floor or left in a shed to rust. Bulbs should be standard ES torch bulbs, as per number of cells, which are standard D type. You should be able to get it to work. What is the silvering on the reflector like?

Tony B
All you need is bulbs and a battery. Hopefully the old batterys were taken out, otherwise the old paper and cardboard U2 cells used to sweat and corrode, ruined a lot of gear that did. Also why one in good condition is quite rare. Is it a twist switch?
25 pounder
Yes , the old battery cells have been removed ages ago , bulb looks ok , and the switch , on the bottom plate is a pressure switch , one push is on , next push to shut off
Tony B
Just wondered because of the gaurd over the bulb. thought it might be a 'Saftey torch' ie for use in mines, gas or explosive enviroments. However I'd doubt it now, reason being push switches can spark, all the sfatey torches I know are twist switch. Nice bit of kit though, enjoy it.
