Right O, so thats the Mk 1*, 1916 shape or Mk 2 (prod from 1938) I've seen these painted in a gloss finish, although 'eggshell', or satin was the norm.........and there are pictures showing that when on active service, a hessian cover was fitted to cut down reflections.

 

 

You depicting Dunkirk B.E.F. then, John ??

A long shot, maybe's, try phoning/poping in to Sabre Sales, Southsea; you want to speak to Richard (Ingram, of wwii tommy book, fame). I know he's involved with wwi group,......but he Does know his stuff.

 

I'll have a look through info I've got here, and hopfully be able to turn something up.
