It's a dumb question, but how do I find out where our BRDM-2 was manufactured please?

You may want to use google translate (though not if you want to ID characters).
My hull is X01TT001653 for example, which means it was made in 1986 (X), first month (01), at the Murom Machine-Building Plant (TT)
