richard hulme
What is the best material to have your repro data plates made from? Aluminium or brass are available. These are for a 1943 wc51. Any ideas?
Mark
Pretty certain they are made from Aluminium.
Bodge Deep
I've seen the repro brass ones, but I've yet to see a WC with original brass ones on... My original ones were all aluminium. The VC series may have had them & some of the earlier Jeeps had them. I suspect the repro brass ones are more for an aesthetic appeal
richard hulme
Thanks guys - that help prevent a hasty purchase of some brass ones!! Where is the best place to get aluminium ones from?
Bodge Deep
Got mine from Jeep parts & got the letters to stamp them from a sunday market one of those cheap tool stalls
Tony B
Try the dodge forum, someone there had a lot done. they can also tell you the US suppliers and correct markings. http://forum.ww2dodge.com/
Matt Rimmer
The originals are zinc. Some of the alloy repros are pretty crap IMO with poor meterials and spacing. I'd say for the main data plate get the best repro you can and trawl ebay for originals for the rest, they do turn up. Matt.
