Alan S
Hi all, question for those more in the know. How much would you expect to pay for a civilian 1948 RE125 restored to a good standard and running. Also your thoughts on taking it back to military spec, would it be worth doing? Your thoughts/comments would be appreciated. Cheers
welbike
I would leave it as it is, the frame needs to be modified in a couple of places, so do the handlebars, and footrests and then you need additional WD parts, that will cost a couple of thousand pounds, if you can find them, so you will end up at near the same price as buying an original. But will have a replica. I was lucky to buy an original for not too much in the US, but that was 20 years ago. Most famous picture of my bike below, before and after restoration. (it's all over the internet!) and one in the dropcage. Cheers, Lex
Alan S
Hi Lex, you have a great bike, nice restoration. Reason I'm asking is that I've been looking for an original and the 1948 one has come up for sale. Thanks for the advice. Unless I can get the 1948 one cheap, I won't bother. Thanks again Alan
welbike
No worries, saw your post on FB too. Why not buy a James ML, much better bike technically!
Ron
A four position Miller switch with direct lighting resistor (if needed) Operates nicely and comes apart easily for fitting. £200 plus shipping. Ron
