Good Afternoon, my name is Paul Finney, 66, retired welder, I have 5 Mk3 Ford Capris and have just bought a FMW Matey from a neighbour who got it out of a barn in Norfolk. Been stood for quite a while so was not running. Sorted the engine out, 1600 crossflow, plugs, points, filter and oil. Tuned him over and he fired straight away. Into first and the nearside wheel drives beautifully, offside wheel is solid. Up in the air, hit various things, disconnected both handbrake cables, took the back cover off!!!!! Put it back on again very quickly. Don't know what I did but the offside wheel now turns grudgingly, I can go forward slowly, but not reverse. The idea is to get him road legal and potter round the village, offer him to the local Sea Cadets for parades and such. Paul.

Mate of mine had one for years. It was like eating onions, every time you thought you were over it the bloody thing came back:-D Best bit of advice, put a couple of large slabs in the back of it, they do bounce. There is one still in situ at Portsmouth dockyard seems to be a static display.

As you know I am a newbie, especially to the world of ex Military Vehicles, came by the Matey by accident. What I would like to do is get him road legal and potter round the village. I am sure that this process has been covered on this forum many times, but would anybody be able to give me the idiots guide, or point me towards the relevant threads please. Many Thanks. Finn.
