Gary Stern interview - your questions needed.

Hi guys.

Some of us know the name Gary Stern, he is the editor and owner of the Amourer Magazine. I have been speaking with Gary on and off for a while and this week I asked him if would like to do an HMVF interview and he said that he would be more than happy to.

Recently he is better known as owner and the 'discoverer' of Maisy Battery....is he really the modern day Howard Carter? There is a lot of controversy around the discovery of Maisy as some say that they have always known it to be there but he claims to be the first to of discovered this immense battery and the first to enter it since the war.

Maisy Battery was a headquarters complex for the coastal defence of Omaha Beach and its guns included four 10.5 cm cannons – three in casements and one in a field, it had six 155mm howitzers in open emplacements, a British 25pdr cannon captured at Dunkirk, two 50mm KwK anti-tank cannons, two Renault Tank turret tops mounted into casements – not to mention many machineguns, mortars and rifles.

The interesting thing is that is said that the USA have never recognised it and that it has been written out of history....basically because they screwed up on their intel as they didn't know it was there - allegedly. It fired onto Omaha and it is suggested that Rommel designed Point Du Hoc to be used as a decoy for the allies to target whilst Maisy down the business...

It is an amazing story, it opened last week and the family Beckett will be visiting next week.
