robin craig
At what intervals are others changing the gearbox fluid and are people doing it at the same time as the filter or doing the filter more often than the fluid itself? R
Grasshopper
I 've been changing the filter more often than the oil (original style filter fitted), as I believe this was why they the later type was modified to have a pressure switch fitted. timbo
Robin Not very often (at least in chronolgoical terms) but probably way too often in terms of usage/ mileage driven. So far I have only changed the oil and filters in my Sabre once, earlier this year, prior to taking my H test in the vain hope that this would mean I would get to do a lot more miles (not come to fruition and Sabre now has other probs). I am currently recommissioning a Spartan which had the oil and filters all round changed about 5 years ago and has moved no more than a few hundred yards since. I will probably change this one too just to be on the safe side although on dipping the oil looks and smells very clean on both engine and gearbox.. I always take the view that oil is cheap (relatively speaking) compared to a new gearbox, or worse if something goes wrong at speed.. Not a fat lot of help I know but there you go..! Cheers Timbo
