airfixtwin
Can anyone shed some light on this Commer Q2 and Queen Mary trailer. The vehicle was used by Short & Harland for the transportation of Short Stirling Fuselage from a satellite factory to final assembly factory. The Second photo is a more standard Q2 and trailer. The first one seems to have had it's roof altered, and the trailer is longer than I'm familiar with. Were these modifications carried out by Short & Harland and has anyone else seen any other examples? Regards
Runflat
Welcome aboad. Nice photos. There's a Queen Mary thread here, which may have some answers and info: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?16478-Queen-Mary-Aircraft-Recovery-Trailers
Paul Drake
There were two types of trailers, both of which were still in use when I was on 71MU at RAF Bicesters. They had different dimensions as pointed out in the other thread. One, the Queen Mary, had the wheels well forward of the tailgate, the other, sometimes known as a Queen Elizabeth had the wheels right at the back. As far as I am aware, both were made by Taskers. A much later trailer was made by King and had two axles.
