In the photo of the line-up of Stalwarts, I see that they have painted on 'MS' ERMs suggesting that they were military sales ones, though they look pretty standard to me as do the paint schemes.

All those MS numbers ones are ex BAOR, which were given new numbers before Budge shipped them back from Germany in 1993. Military Surplus more like.
I did an FOI to MOD on the MS numbers, and they have no records or knowledge of what MS stands for

I have a souvenir brochure of the Charity Open days in 1989 here....that make interesting reading, there was a lot of kit. (about 200)

@snort does it show any Stalwarts, even in the background?

I'm looking for photo evidence of the Austrian Stalwarts at Budge. Richard Beddall sold them to Tony Budge in 1988.

Amongst the photos from the 90s, after Budge had bought hundreds of Stalwarts back from Germany - this photo shows some Swedish Stalwarts, with their FOCO cranes. Richard sold his remaining Swedish ones to Tony at the same time as the Austrian ones.

The Austrian ones, like the two German Mark 2, had combined side and indicator lights on the side of the cab, rather than the rubies on the front of the cab.

Mark that's a good link I've not seen so much of the collection before. These other sites that are defunct, have you tried looking for archived pages in :

    https://help.archive.org/help/wayback-machine-general-information/

No, I've not had much time to look at archived pages, but will do. But I think this link has quite a few from inside, but I'd like to see earlier photos. I'm presuming they're all after 93.

Been watching all the Christmas specials amongst the browsing 😉

I've found a couple of forums that I've never seen before, they're WW2 forums that have links to defunct photo shares of Budge. One has a person who has a number of old Budge sales brochures, so something might come from that.

Against all odds I managed to find it within 10 mins. There is data on the reverse, nothing I'm sure you don't know already. But I will do you some decent scans for your web site in due course.

    To be going on with:

    Many thanks, Clive.

I've been directed to this website, where there are a few photos which must have been taken after 1993 due to all the ex BAOR Stalwarts there. Sadly, can't see the odd ones enough to know which ones they are

  5. I've seen numerous links on numerous web forums for photos from A F Budge's site - but all these links are broken, as in the photo hosting websites has gone, or the person has stopped paying their ransom.
If you have any old photos of Richard Beddal, A (Tony) F Budge or Harry Pounds, etc - perhaps you could share the actual photos on here, because so many photos can't be seen due to the broken links.

I'm specifically looking for photos of 4 Alvis Stalwarts that Richard Beddall bought from Austria in the mid 1980s. These were sold to A (Tony) F Budge around 1988.

These Austrian Stalwarts, like the 2 German ones have Hella combined side and indicator lights on the side of the cab, rather than the usual two rubies on the front of the cab.

Found the Ferrets tucked away at an air show at Boscombe Down in 1990, far more interesting than looking at aeroplanes.

Personally, I can't work out if this is an Armoured personnel carrier, or an Armoured car with balconies

May be an image of 9 people and text

MERRY  CHRISTMAS CLIVE and every one else

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Wally.

They sold off lots of petrol engined vehicles around 1993, didn't they.

According to a report I have here, the K60 multifuel was around 250Kg more than the Rolls 8 Cylinder. I don't know if that's just for the engine or the full pack.

  8. I recently learnt that whilst some RAF stations had Off road courses or railway sleepers near to the Crash bays, for the Salamander - some stations actually had rollers fitted into the floor of the Mk 6 Salamander bay. This being to relieve the transmission wind up on both sides of the Salamander as they reversed in.

I've only managed to find this photo, which shows most of one roller. I wonder if anyone has a photo that shows both rollers clearly, and would be prepared to share it, please.

    Many thanks

Some times l come across a trial that you wonder why in this case they a took a  lorry designed for use on tarmac road and then subject it to a trial on a rough off the road course for over five thousand miles then produce a report of over two pages of defects all caused by the treatment on the course

Maybe it was preparation for pot holed roads of the future 😉

  13. According to the design company,

"The bracket section on these 13 litre containers were used with carrying straps along with a back-pack cage effect structure in which Soldiers were meant to carry on their backs.  I never had the pleasure, thankfully, in using these in training and it wasn’t long after the mid to late 80’s the 18-litre superseded these….thankfully without the ability to be carried on your back!"

I've asked about photos, but it's not hopeful

    mk3.jpg

@wally dugan is there any mention in the Class 30 book about the Stalwart. I'm sure I've read somewhere of at least the thought of using it for Class 30. Not to be confused with the American MoMat.

A copy of that for my Bedford Group and website would be appreciated as well, please. If possible

Is there a last part to the Stalwart Story?

You just know that I'm going to ask for a copy of that, don't you, @wally dugan 😉 PLEASE
