  1. Welcome to the HMVF, plenty of military kit to spot round your way then :-D
  2. Like it or not we owe our freedom to guns and the brave people using them ! Signed and Shared with Respect and Gratitude to them. :saluting:
  3. NOT signing the petition because you think the EU will take no notice of it is misguided and ridiculous. Write to MP's and MEP's as well by all means but a single voice as opposed to tens of thousands has less chance of success. This is not going away, people with the attitude of "they won't listen" are those who sit back, refuse to sign petitions and then complain when the politicians ruin their hobby. In answer to Tony B yes Airsoft are included in the proposed legislations.
  4. I agree with the above, however there still seems to be total apathy towards this from some sections of our hobby, many choosing to state outright on Facebook and other social media sites that this will NOT happen and if it did will not AFFECT us  Well unless we get our act together and protest to the highest level it WILL. The legal handgun owners all thought the same and look where it got them. Our hobby will be affected and it will mean many peoples investments become worthless. If people bought their stuff in the 60's they may not be too worried but those with recent purchases will see a drop in value alarmingly. The law BREAKERS will continue regardless and WE will be made to suffer. The whole idea that you can stop gun crime by making deactivated guns illegal is bordering on insanity, it is just a knee jerk ill thought out law that will not stop one terrorist but will decimate the hobby we all love. The handgun law made criminals out of the law abiding, destroyed their well regulated hobby, cost millions to implement and achieved NOTHING. There are more handguns out there than there ever was with lax open borders solely to blame. A government that has lost control of the lawless always picks on the law abiding it is so much easier isn't it ?
  5. Well said and virtually word for word what I said on the petition too. Laws only work IF people are prepared to obey them terrorists live outside the law. It is already illegal to bomb and shoot people it didn't and won't stop them. Crack down on the lawless NOT the law abiding.
  6. The man to talk to is Cliff at Universal Jeeps he will no doubt know the answer. :-D
  7. Just a further example related to my earlier post. A few years back a group of us Jeep owners were up in Pickering for the NYMR War Weekend. We woke one morning to thick frost everywhere. Peoples sheeted Jeeps were white over and it was bloody freezing :-D My GPW was uncovered with frost on the seats, yet my 6v Jeep started first time and was ready to go before ANY of the 12v or 24v ones had started ! As I said earlier get the 6v system right and you will be fine. I do agree with the earlier post that manually pumping up the fuel after standing saves strain on nerves as well as the battery :-D
  8. I have had several six volt military vehicles over the years and still have a Ford GPW and Cadillac Staff Car. Both are still 6v, in most cases poor starting and lighting is purely down to either bad earthing or the wrong earth cables/battery. My GPW was a sluggish starter and I considered the 12v route but then discovered an American website which explained the above causes. I hadn't realised that 6v earth leads are virtually twice the thickness of 12v ones and sometime in its life my jeep had had modern 12v earths fitted. I changed the leads to proper 6v ones and my jeep actually starts better than virtually all my friends running 12v. Most cannot believe mine is 6v. Again the Caddy is 6v and it is a 5.7 litre flathead V8 no problems at all, both have good lighting and start virtually instantly. As long as your battery is the correct amperage your starter is in good condition and your leads are both correct 6v items and earthed properly there really is nothing to be gained by going to 12v. As they said if 6v was good enough when they were being shot at they are good enough now. Try checking your system from top to bottom especially the items mentioned first you may save yourself a few quid :-D
  9. If you test the voltage at the battery ignition off, then start the truck at test again at fast idle is there any difference in voltage + - ? Increase revs does ANYTHING happen to readings ?
  10. It wasn't a UK deactivated weapon I would think as our standards are among the best in the world, some countries idea of deactivation are one spot weld easily removed. If people think this will not affect us you are all severely mistaken, once the ball starts rolling it will continue. What next, banning of military vehicles, re-enactment and things such as War and Peace ? We need to take this seriously, no one here should be against registration BUT if these legally held deactivated weapons are banned we all lose. Businesses will close, peoples collections reduced to scrap and our hobby as it is will never recover. Has anyone thought on the value of the vehicles plummeting ? Many people in this hobby do so to embrace the whole picture, without the arms part there is nothing to display but rows of green vehicles.
  11. Ethanol ? Have you seen what it does to fuel lines :-D
  12. You can scare someone popping a paper bag so did they ban those in Holland too ? :-D Another place I will cross off my places to live then . When we were kids you carried sheath knifes, had toy guns that weren't painted bright orange and actually rode bikes without helmets ! How did we ever survive :-D
  13. The government can make as many laws as they like but laws work only if people obey them. I have yet to hear of a terrorist who gives a sh*t for the law. It was against the law to bomb and shoot people but it didn't stop the IRA did it ? If this knee jerk form of law making makes ONE jot of difference to a terrorists agenda it will be nothing short of a miracle. They made handguns illegal to prevent handgun crime it made NO difference and neither will these proposals. I truly hope sense prevails but in this crazy world who wants to bet on it ?
  14. I agree but as in most knee jerk proposals it will be rushed through without thought or consideration for the likes of us. I hope this doesn't spell the end of our hobby as we know it and some common sense by the powers that be is shown. Registering of deactivated weapons IS the sensible approach hopefully it will be the option chosen.
  15. When I did the roof of my Green Goddess I struggled to find brown so I simply bought good quality black bathroom non slip lino from eBay and sprayed it with red oxide. Despite me climbing all over it and the weather it has yet to wear off so there is always that option. :-D
