HI KEVIN After posting about the AEC engine colour I went to look up any thing i have on AEC MK3 ARMOURED CARS if you are interested I have found two 1944 dated original tec drawings one on transportation and one a general side and front view diagrams not alot of detail but if you want i can copy them and send them to you by post also a friend who worked for me at the museum thinks he may have a old guide book with a colour photo of the engine REGARDS WALLY

HI some where on the forum i was reminded that in the Museum of Army Transport we had a 1943 AEC 6 CYLINDER given to the Army by AEC for instruction it remained untouched up to 2003 it was totally original and was painted black as you say postwar reconditioned engines were painted duck egg blue or to be correct sky blue I hope helps REGARDS WALLY

HI IVOR It seems you are spot on it is fair to suppose that it is white over blue and you would right to say the Royal Signals this a problem of black and white photos as to the unit serial numbers again your 50/60 are correct according to my new copy of unit serial numbers 1939 /45 WALLY

I agree it looks like a 6x4 TM with a army trails number 10 WA 15

As you said its made of copper is this a factor in it use as against steel say

Is it for taking soil samples from the sea bed

HI And welcome on the history of your K9 i would write to The RLC Museum at DEEPCUT they may have your vehicle history card I know they have some of them in the BG range The INFORMATION plate tells you that it under went a Base Over Haul in October 1956 REGARDS WALLY

HI The reason I think RM was not allocated was that letter R was used in 1948 examples RA RB RD RF to issue RM to say the ROYAL MARINES would be a dead give away regards wally

HI Triservice is what it suggests the three services Army Navy Air force to make it easy for you the air force used the letter A in the middle of the REG number like OO AM OO the navy RN the army letters from BC TO KF and so on the examples i have give are not Light weight numbers it only to show you how the system worked we had ROYAL MARINES at Leconfield who used landrovers with both RN AND ARMY REG NUMBERS just out of interest as far as I am aware the letters RM was not used unless some one knows differant REGARDS WALLY

HI Try the RLC MUSEUM at DEEPCUT as they hold most of the 101 army landrover 419 B key cards but not all of them REGARDS WALLY

HI AND A VERY GOOD EVENING First if the M20 served after 1948 it would have had a new number as I discribed this would have been stamped on to a small brass plate by the army it could be found on the tool box or the chain guard I sure if others have found this plate in a differant place they will let you know if this plate could be found you may have got some history from the key cards held at the RLC MUSEUM DEEPCUT secondly I was reminded that when i worked at THE MUSEUM OF ARMY TRANSPORT in the desert display we had a BSA M20 in sand colour with the yellow and blue arm of service and the number 84 this motor cycle was on loan to the museum from a senior RAF officer who I believed got it while serving in CYPRUS he also owned a humber box which I think may now be owned by a forum member lastly as I do know what period of post war service it was intended to portray i only gave one unit from the RASC /RCT as a example the RASC disbanded in 1965 and the RCT was formed there are other unit in this period from the RASC/RCT that used the number 84 finding out its history is part of the fun REGARDS WALLY

HI BRYAN Thank you for your offer any more information is welcome I sent a copy of my book 1944/5 north west europe unit serial numbers to a friend in the MOD who has access to the original documents on this subject he has sent me the front 3 pages of another book titiled unit serial numbers 1944/5 which I have not seen before and there seem to be changes I have asked him what are the chances of getting a copy of the whole book his reply to day at 12 45 was he is on Leave from the 28 june till the 18 july but will try to get it to me before he goes if not when he gets back the more information we get is better of all of us interested in historical military vehicle history REGARDS WALLY

HI The yellow and blue as said came in after1945 and was used by the ROYAL CORP OF TRANSPORT up to the forming of THE ROYAL LOGISTIC CORP if your M20 stayed in the army after 1948 it would have a number that looked like this 01 YF 07 or similar i can find refererance to number 84in 1944 with the RASC and after 1945 with the RASC this was with the brigade group transport company REGARDS WALLY

GOOD MORNING IVOR thank you for your reply the book I refered to was given to me by a retired army officer who also became a well respected military museum director as well as a writer of military books it is one of the only documents that I have that did not come straight from the mod the front cover states that it covers unit serial numbers north west europe 1944/45 that is the only date on the document any where and up to now I have had no reason to question its contents but saying that up to now I cannot recall refering to it I hope that you know me well enough that I would not give false information out knowingly I still would like to know if some one has a copy of any original documents on this subject that I may not have I am willing to pay REGARDS WALLY
