  1. I am just commencing the restoration of my Willys Jeep which has been waiting for a while for me to get around to it. Well actually since 1975 when Father bought it! Anyway, its British but I have not other information other than Butler lights on the front wings and light green British Army paint on the engine. I can find lots and lots of photos of US Army Jeeps but not so many of British Army Jeeps circa June 1944. Have any of you out there photos you could post up or just general information on fittings for a British Jeep of the period with markings? Would be very helpful . Not sure whether it should be Micky Mouse or not, I suspect not at June 44?
  2. thanks Andrew. I have to come clean and admit that the restoration of the body has been done by a professional coach builder who has worked wonders. He built the body piece by piece without removing it from the chassis and restored the chassis underneath it. I would prefer to do it the other way around, but my father and I don't share the same view on this. He is adamant that you must keep the integrity of the body . My point is that there was not a lot of it left so it would have been ok to strip it down to the chassis and build it back up. The second Humber is sitting untouched awaiting a decision as to what to do with it. It is too good to be used for spares and was a lot better than the first one so it looks like I will have to do that one now!
  3. And here is the same Humber now. Pretty much finished. and as it was before we started pulling it out. It collapsed on itself when we extracted it
  4. Just back from Saturday at Headcorn. Fabulous day as always, and in spite of the troubles the event is just as good as ever. Mitchell Bomber is quite a sight taking off and landing at Headcorn as is the Catalina. I wondered how they got the two big birds in to Headcorn but apparently the Mitchell used to take off from Carriers and the drag for water landing aircraft means the Catalina has massive power excess. Nice to to see most of the old faces whilst missing one or two. Hopefully they will be back next year.
  5. I HAVE SEVERAL OF THESE, SOME BRAND NEW AND BOXED. MAKE ME A SENSIBLE OFFER. andrew@honychurch.com 07989576482
  6. I HAVE HAD THIS SINCE I SOLD MY M16, ITS A GENUINE US ARMY HALFTRACK RADIO BOX. GOOD CONDITION. MAKE ME A SENSIBLE OFFER. andrew@honychurch.com 07989576482
  7. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT MY SPARE TURRET FOR AN M8 ARMOURED CAR FOR FAR TOO LONG NOW. IT NEEDS TO GO. PLEASE MAKE AN OFFER . SOMEONE SOMEWHERE MUST BE DESPERATE FOR THIS! andrew@honychurch.com 07989576482
  8. I like to think of the rarer T16 as the final development of the earlier universal, and there is no doubt that the tiller/cletrac style differential steering is far superior to the bend the track and diff braking on the earlier mass produced Carriers. Interesting that they were the Carriers that the British Army elected to keep after 45 Not that I am biased or anything. Anyway, I looking for a regulator for this if anyone has a nice NOS, wish I had bought more of dear Chris Wilkinson whilst I could All help much appreciated as the blighter has stopped charging this is the regulator incase someone has one and didn't know what it was for
  9. Guys, I am having trouble getting my T16 Carrier to charge. Used to work ok, and now it will not. The generator is working as far as I can see having tested it, and repolarised it. however, the regulator is not providing current through it to the field terminal to the generator. If I cut the regulator out of the circuit and apply 12v to the field wire to the generator all is well. So its a three pole regulator much like a Jeep, Dodge. Half track. Is anyone out there an expert on these things who lives in the Kent area? Trying to get it to Combined Ops at the weekend but just cannot sort this. Oh, and yes I have cleaned all the points but may have lost some adjustment.
  10. Thanks chaps. The oblong plate is in fact instructions for left and right hand threads on the axles. Nick if you are making new sliding roof sections maybe we could double up on that?
  11. Thank you Nick. Great to see these numbers. I would like to get a copy of Alec list, have emailed him so hopefully soon. Mine is definitely 8650513. What is the narrow plate on the passenger side of the dash? It's quite corroded and can't be read as yet. Is it brass? If so should be able to clean it up. I do have the body number but cannot recall it whilst I write this . Anybody got any drawings for the sliding roof? Mine has been taken out and replaced with flat sheet.
  12. whats in here then? no not another one! its been there since about 1974 and was very reluctant to come out. Its the sister car to the other Humber I bought but it has taken me 3 years to negotiate its purchase. Originally it was owned by an eccentric Don from Cambridge University who bought both HHUs from a dealer in Cambridge. Eventually this was robbed of a few parts to keep the other one alive, but ended up being the better of the two in my view. As my father is cracking on with the other I now have to decide whether to take this on or not. Anyway, I know we all like a barn find . This really is a find! Its been desert coloured all over and then khaki on top. Does anyone know what the chassis number of HHUs started at? this one is 8650513 looking at my parts book it refers to an example chassis number being 8650501. Not sure if that's the starting number but if so this would make this vehicle number 12?
  13. What very sad news, and as said above what a stalwart of our movement he was. As an impressionable 13 year old on the first of the Peter Gray trips to Normandy in 74 I recall Bernard , always appearing to me to be a character of great fun and mischief. What a shame but how lucky we all have been to have had him in our club as an inspiration to the rest of us. RIP Bernard and my condolences to you family from my father Bob Honychurch and me.
  14. Guys I have bought a 3 ton vehicle for about 15 miles south of CAmbridge and need some help with a tele handler or similar. The old girl has not moved for 35 years and has no front axle hence the need to lift and pull. Anybody who can help I will gladly pay. Please e mail me at andrew.honychurch@btinternet.com. I have a tilt bed ifor Williams to load onto with winch. Thanks in advance. Andrew
  15. is there any more information on this event. I have two Dingoes I would like to take. Just not got any more information. please let me know if the organisers are still out there?
  16. indeed it is a different location to other MK3s I suspect there was a staggered change to a full MK3 specification. It does not look like it has ever had the filter housing in the other place, however it may have been changed at base overhaul. Not sure how early a MK3 mine is without trawling through records, but its staying where it is thanks for the suggestion !!!!
  17. thanks for that. Its now progressing having sat doing nothing for a few more months. I have now pretty much rewired it, a much needed task as the wiring perishes and causes direct shorts through the steel braided screening. I was advised to do this by my friend Richard Farrant and he was absolutely correct, when I stripped the wires it was in a frightening condition. I would certainly advise anyone with a Dingo who has not already done it to do so, or you may regret it , these things could easily catch fire with the wiring passing through the floor area where there is a flamable cocktail of oil and fuel. Photos to follow.
  18. hi Andy I see there is one on Milweb right now.
  19. ok, some good info here thanks. Any idea who does the refurbs? I will try to get a photo or two posted soon. thanks a lot
  20. I am just refurbishing my Dingo , recently purchased, which has its original fitment 19 set, PSU control boxes all fitted. However, they have suffered the ravages of time and weather and to look their best could really do with a refurb. It has always amazed me that some collectors seem to get their 19 sets looking like new, the panels are scratch free and the stickers/decals with the instructions on are all perfect. Question is therefore, can you buy this sort of stuff and simply rub down the front covers and respray them, or is there someone out there who can refurb the cosmetics ? Sorry if its sounds a bit of a simple question but I am new to radios although I have owned them for years, just never taken any notice of them!
  21. well thanks. In fact I have been working on the old girl just today. Seems I have a wiring issue as there was puff of smoke when I turned the ignition on. Just stripped out the inside so I can get at the wiring. I think I am going to have to rewire it , best to be safe, as the wires are all getting very perished now, nearly 70 years old. Will load up some photos in due course.
  22. Great stuff Singe, thanks. Have you checked Imperial War Museum Photo library for stills? If not I may try to get a trip up there some time soon.
  23. no idea sorry. Call Chapmans at Tenterden Kent. please let me know how you get along?
