Didn't you already look at this one Tom? Ron

Probably this will get moved to a not so obvious section. But I know there are a couple of guys looking for G3 parts and this doesn't seem over priced for the available parts.......Nothing to do with me! Ron

Tom your 16H might well have had a 7/8"....but not the one fitted! According to Rob's site, only one contract had 7/8" bars. I don't know if any more info has come to light since, to include later contracts. Norton used Doherty controls, not Amal. The controls used went through several changes from the pre-war combination levers then the separate 'solid' levers and then a couple of variation of the economy pressed steel levers. The only part of your controls that is definitely Doherty, is your twist grip.
This picture from Rob's site shows what I think is the last 'economy' version. Ron

14mm. I use Champion L82C or Bosch W7AC in my WD OHV engines.
Quite cheap on line here:-

I'm glad that your pleased with the handlebar and battery. The handlebar is copied from a NOS original and the battery is copied from originals that Henk and I provided.
I'm guessing that your bike might have come with the 7/8" bar? Your twist-grip looks suspiciously like a hard to find Doherty, and so does your front brake lever. Although by the time of 7/8" bars, I wonder if they were fitted with the pressed steel levers (Perhaps Rik can confirm?) Ron

Did you remember the Vokes tube, Brass sliders and DU142 screw kit?
My platers are having some issue with last batch of dull nickel (collected Wed)......Last few bits are a tad shinier than I like. So I want them to hopefully resolve it for next time I take stuff. Fortunately yours was nearly all done anyway. Any few bits that need plating or re-plating can be done your end.
Still filling small bit of the tank and blocking down with 40 grit. This is the best time for me to rob someone as I have no finger prints left🥴 Ron

Good luck Rob. I think you'll be well inspired once you've found those first vital parts. Ron

Hi Rob. Firstly, the frame and engine are matching as it left the factory in 1942. The 'F' number is just a part number. TEC 7.42 = Triumph Engineering Co July 1942. under contract C13948 which is stamped on the crankcase.
As I see it, the first things you need to look for, is a Triumph 'lightweight' rear frame section and a set of correct Webb girders (Not Triumph forks!!) I would definitely avoid the Indian copies on ebay😝
Your tank and mudguards look correct, Not sure if the wheels/hubs will be usable though.
Regards Ron

No the plate is quite loose, I can lift it off and on, But it will stay there while I work on the tank. The sealer has gone on well, so now for the topside. Ron

This is the third WD/C tank that I've worked on over the last 2 years that has been a real struggle to fit the very un-flexible fuel pipe..... I've just realized why!!!
From years of fare wear and tear, abuse-and/or welding repair work the tanks have splayed open a tad at the bottom. I found by squeezing the tank at the rear mounting bolts, it was quite easy to pull the tank in again.......But of course it springs back again. But by repeated attempts, I've reduced the distance by about 1/8". I made a plate to stop it moving back while I set about the tank sealer last night in the confines of the warm house.
My Velo's have such a support plate fitted at the factory to stop the tanks from spreading in this way. Ron

So essentially it's been made into a 5SW. I think there was a need to hurriedly re-equip after Dunkirk and Triumph must have had a batch of pre-war 5S engines on the shelve and put 1322 of them into 3S frames. The 5S engines were never stamped with a 'W'. I helped the WD Triumph (NL) boys with these for their register and from memory there is only 6 or 7 5SW's on the list.
Mine came to me already fitted with a 3HW rack and bags......Which are so handy!! Unbelievably, I found a NOS rear carrier for my 3SW which still had its 2/6d price tag on it.
Cheers Ron

That's a coincidence Neils. I just fitted one of those to my W/NG on Sunday.
Service brown is a standard BS paint colour BS499 or if you want a slightly darker colour BS436 Dark Camo Brown.

Is your friends bike fitted with a 500 SV engine Jenk? If so, I'd be interested to know the number some time. Ron

Since I've just started working on the tank, I suddenly remembered that the previous owners had cut and buggered about with the petrol pipe, to make it fit the BSA tank and whatever carb was fitted. So I thought it best to see if I could do something with it now. I also noticed (and on a previous occasion) that the distance between the petrol taps on these RE tanks is not consistent. It was a bit of a stretch to get the relatively short pipe to reach. I hope it works ok? so for now it's just sprayed with petrol proof lacquer.
The patina of the petrol tank would suit a lot of guys so I'll leave it like that! Hope Lex likes it too?😣 Ron

Royal Enfield did for sure but I've never heard it with Triumph. But firms like Pride and Clark and Marble Arch Motors who where buying up ex WD stocks just after the war would offer a proper re-spray for a few quid extra. Ron

Frank Brown makes nice pannier bags with the correct weight canvas. I'm sure he's friendly enough to advice you Jan. Mention my name if you want.

Thanks for that. It needs a new home as it doesn't fit into my collection. Ron

Paul a few more pictures of your bike and frame number location might help. This is my frame number and how I've seen others, on right hand side of head stock.
Maybe some info here? http://simplywizard.co.uk/folders/level3/ml.htm Ron

Jenk, if you haven't noticed? Engine 44216 is the factory matched engine for frame 34216. Ron

Lex the picture you posted of the 'naked' throttle twist grip is actually the one I acquired from Bastiaan for one of my C10's. Yours was even more fiddly as it has an outer steel cover over the spiral grooves which means you can't see whether the brass sliders are located properly or not😕 Ron

Rescuing my WD16H

I've got and older version of this twin pot 50 ltr compressor which does all my spraying, tyre inflating and the small amount of grit blasting that I do. I also have a spare older single pot version as a standby. But for the odd bit of bike parts spraying and tyre inflating, the 24 ltr would be a good compromise. Buy a reasonably priced gun (Devilbis or similar) with fairly fine nozzle. The cheap guns are ok for undercoat etc but I found that the nozzle is too course for top coat and give an orange peel finish. Ron
