  1. we have not worked the GUE yet, it does run but the connection from the cab to the engine does not work, ie when we press the starter it isn't starting, it will be a slow process of elimination or run a new wire, we have to short the starter terminals...not neat..

I do have a complete new GUE should you ever need it.....

  2. As far as I know the conversion was carried out by the Jordanians themselves. Chris told me he set up a demo using parts he had in stock. I understood this to be just the parts connected together, not involving a vehicle. They then ordered fifty sets. He also supplied roadwheels he was buying from Pounds, they came off the Centaur dozers.

What conversion took place, from what to what ?

  3. when they are on the vehicles where are they positioned just on the batterys or inline permantly

Not quite sure exactly what you are asking, but I will have a go at answering anyway. In all cases the inter vehicle socket is wired in parallel with the batteries and the vehicle electrics. On some they are connected directly to the batteries an example being my Combat Engineer Tractor, even when the battery isolator is turned off the socket is still connected to the batteries. On others the socket is connected on the vehicle side of the battery isolator switch, an example being my Scammell Crusader, so with the isolator turned off the socket is also isolated from the vehicle batteries. Obviously on a vehicle without a battery isolator switch the socket is directly connected to the batteries, an example being my US Army 2 1/2 Ton Reo.

There are primarily 2 different types, NATO the type seen on most British / European Military vehicles (the concentric round ones ) and US 2 pin. However there is some cross over due to current capacity some heavier US vehicles use the NATO type and some US 2 pin can be seen used for auxiliary power connection on British / European vehicles.

There is also a plug in adaptor which will convert the 2 pin to the NATO concentric type.

  4. Dear John,

I feel a bit awkward as ANTAR pointed out that you are in actual fact a Lord, and yes I did look you up.

I take my cue from you, that you sign off at John and nothing else, so I am taking it that in these circles that is how you wish to be addressed. If I am wrong and have offended then I apologise ahead of time.l

Otherwise I will let that one rest.

Thanks for the explanation of what your methodology is, makes perfect sense. What a wonderful overhaul it will be once finished.

I guess by now you know the vehicle so well that you almost feel you can do it in your sleep?

    Kind regards

    Robin

Robin and John it was not my intention to embarrass either of you regarding the title just an opportunity to get in a joke. John I know you do a fine job in the House of Lords promoting our vehicle preservation movement whenever possible. My boss (I work for JCB) is also a Lord who has an interest in vehicle preservation and promoting British Industry.

  5. Spoke to a mechanic at Lancs Daf this morning; I was right it was a light gray material, a bit like felt with a hardish foam backing, but that was on the Roadtrains. I would have thought yours would have been the same john. Is your a full sleeper cab or the smaller rest cab? I can't remember.

    Craig

Thanks Craig will go to Segal trimmings in Salford and see what they have. Full sleeper.S26 cab paint.jpg

  6. I was toying with the idea of taking it in person but I never seem to have enough time, maybe I will just have to make the time for it !

Well worth making the time to make the trip, Ian B and I visited about 2 years ago, I can recommend some other places to visit if your doing a road trip.

  7. Keith,

I served for many years at 240 Sqn. Shortly after I arrived the DTs went but we had the Antars for a while after, especially 54BH04 and 05. That is why I got into Antars. My Antar was 33BP08 and is now reg TMU371Y. It is under rebuild and up until last week, no two parts of the chassis were bolted together!

    John

    Any restoration pictures John ?

  8. I have an A frame nearly exactly the same as this along with the pins to locate it. I removed it off the side of a rather nice ex mod jcb loading shovel a few years ago!! Mine will fold flat though as it has a pivot on one side at the towing ring end. If anybody wants another then let me know.

That would be off a JCB 410M the transmission could be disengaged so it could be towed at convoy speed using that A Bar. Towing vehicle would be Militant cargo or such like.

  9. am on the search for a MAZ and agree totally on your input, I will have littered all over the museum tanks to play in on and around and guns that move and can be played with...will have special firing ranges built too to allow people to fire real weapons subject to permissions and things but that will cost the punters dear...would like to have a gun that fires also but unlikely that ambition will be met easily, neighbours fretting about noise and all that...

I am totally not interested in nut and bolt restorations...unless someone else is paying us to do it...Andy my chief mechanic is a total perfectionist but for the museum i like real, as they are collected...as they were used as they became etc...

The Maz tank transporter which has appeared at W & P is currently for sale.
