Although I have owened CET s for the past 10 years I have never attempted to register one but always thought that if I did it would be as construction plant (as that is what it is).

As discussed on the telephone Rick, l have added a loader crane on the S26 which has pushed up the unladen weight by about 2 tonnes (including the substantial sub frame). Plus the crane is quite close to the 5th wheel coupling creating a situation where I could only use a narrow neck trailer with it. My plan was my M747 trailer, but that project has stalled a little due to lack of time, as has getting the Seddon Atkinson on the road too !

There was a vehicle such as that in the horde of vehicles at the B & E Boys storage facility that I visited, some kind of story about why it didn't have a gun that was a lot less plausible than the driver training vehicle usage you describe.
Of note, the Land Rover gong past the Abbot also seems to be ex military.
Robin
It now has a "dummy" gun, it was at one point described as the Abbot tug, will get a picture of it tomorrow.

If you want the DROPS gear to go back on I know where there are some removed sets. PM if interested.

Regards Dale
Is there a date for the Yesteryear Festival 2016 yet Dale ?
-
Neither! I think it's Hollebone.
I think Adrian is correct on the spelling.

Yes, I appreciate that, I was just a little surprised that they didn't know the difference between a radar set and a rocket launcher.
You must admit Mike it does look a bit like a wheeled variant of the MLRS...if you had not have pointed it out to me I would not have had a clue !
-
Agreed, they claim the Foden 8x6 Cobra radar is a rocket launcher....
Metcalfe Farms are just the haulier contracted to move the vehicles, nothing to do with "the collection".
-
We need someone to photograph the convoy on Monday, then we will be sure what and who it's about. I do hope they are going into dry storage it would be a shame for them to deteriorate.

There are no rifle holders, if you want the stuff please send PM and we can discuss boxes and weight.
Wing brackets are being confused as rifle holders !

Thanks Chris, thought it was a bit coincidental !

I have a 434 for sale on Milweb. Last Sunday I got an email from Bruce@hetzerman.com enquiring if the 434 is still for sale and if so could he make arrangements to visit. Sent reply saying it was and the general location...answer...nothing. looking at the email address does anyone know if it's him ? Bruce and Hetzer seem a bit coincidental.

Whatever you do do not put Hawker batteries on a big old fashioned charger and try to pump lots of charge into them. You will fry them. It is one of the few ways to kill them. As advised above, get a pulse charger and leave them to cycle for several days each, they may well come back to life. There are several threads about this in this section.
I don't know about Shielders but all the FV430 family have the firewire fire detection system live all the time - not fed through the master switch. It will empty a pair of good batteries in about ten days unless you pull the circuit breakers or physicly disconnect the batteries.
David
Most of the fire wire systems are made by Graviner, if you find the control box there is 1 screw connector which suppliers the 24v feed, unscrew this connector.
With regards to charging the Hawkers I have a twin output Extreme pulse charger it brings them up really well and you can do them both at the same time.

Try Craig at Hindle Transport in Bolton.

Cheers that would be good, any information is handy. We are trying to get to the bottom of the production numbers for the Smith, everyone thinks it was 50, an old gentleman who worked for Smith says only 3, and another very knowledgeable gentleman has told me that 50 where ordered and only 12 actually produced. Any thoughts?
I have only ever seen 2 yours and the one on Nelson Greens airfield.
-
I take it you have checked that the pump mounted behind the centre of the front bumper is driving via the drive shaft to the crank pulley ?
-
Thank you John, I think I've tracked down some information, I will update our progress on here.
Let me know if you need any info I have all the ANTAR EMERs and parts books.

the 35t and 65t business does confuse me to be honest, she is around 61t on the plate.
Nice to know a little more of its history, Dave said he put a new engine in it when he had her.
Looking at the earlier posts in the thread from the lad with the "RoadHaus" crusader the 5.5 ring and pinions seem to be the way to go when I have some time and money!
I sold Roland Remp with the Roadhaus Crusader the crown wheel and pinion sets to give the better road speed, when I sold my Crusader last year I stupidly let the the last set of low ratio sets go with it on the promise of the money being sent on to me, still waiting....I think I will be making a visit soon to get them back.

Great event that just gets better and better ! Just realised that I was talking to Antar ( John ) with Timbo !!! I am making sure that all my toys come next year !!!!
Small world ! we must have chatted for an hour without really knowing it !
-
CET looked tidy as ever John, nice to see you on Sunday...
Tim
Yes good to see you too Tim, will certainly make a full weekend of it next year !
-
I took my CET on Sunday....when the storm came I began to think I was going to need its amphibious capabilities !
-
Yes, I believe so. In the Telegraph now.
No tracks now?
I would suggest that the tracks were split to make it easier to remove without causing potential damage to final drives and rest of drive train.

Nice to hear your progressing John, really looking forward to seeing some pictures.
FV180 CET and Alvis Shielder... unloved vehicles?

I have a CET and have had one for around 10 years now (not the same one ). They are a fantastic vehicle if you know how to look after them. There are around 10 -15 in private hands aroundthe UK, a couple have even found their way to the USA, the last 3 at Withams are destined for a collector in Germany.
