  1. Out of interest, does anyone have a spare foot "stirrup" for the front trackguard?

    Andy

No sorry Andy have not got a spare one. If you are planning on putting it on a 432 you need to strengthen the mudguard as well as the 434 mudguard on that side is made of thicker steel to support the step.

  2. In a previous post I was asked to comment about working on a project for the Tank Museum. Two tanks were restored from range wrecks A11 Matilda started 1988 and took 5.25 years and Churchill AVRE also started in 1988 and nearly 11 years.

At that time I was dealing with George Forty and Neville Anderson and the relationship was fine, no interference whatsoever. Expenses for parts used were paid promptly without any query, however I was honest at all times so that is what I expected. The tanks were with me to restore for the TM at my place of business and I was in control.

Remember those days well Bob, you very kindly were allowing me to restore my Mk 3 ANTAR at your premises. Antar was there for 4 years July 88 to August 92 when I boldly took it on its first trip out to Stoneleigh Warwickshire under its own power...young and confident.

  3. Well time has come for the 434 to be sold(something smaller!!) The old girl is off to Canada in the next week or so! She has come up quite nice even if I do say so myself!

If the new owner would like the vice mounting plate off the rear workbench I think I have a spare one, will check in thetank shed on sSunday.

  4. Don't suppose you could sort me out with a couple of rocket propelled ground anchors John?:cool2:

Ah the CET holy grail...not originals but I have all the drawings to do a batch of copies at some stage. Why do you want them Mike ? Are you involved with CETs ?

  5. The chimney is also emitting the air which circulates the transmission and engine compartments to stop build up of fumes in the hull and provide additional cooling. Its drawn in by a fan driven by the same belt drive for the alternator and air con pump. I have loads of CET CES if you want any Paul.

  6. V8 Perkins, all bark no bol#%s!!

If i was to ever deseilise it would be a L10 cummins, very good & Powerfull lump!

The perkins v8 was chosen for its high rpm (2800) you have to remember that the Martian drive train was matched to a petrol engine which revved to 3750 rpm, difficult to match to any diesel, guess the L10 would top out at 2300 rpm giving a max road speed less than 30mph !

  7. I had a very nice Martian Recovery for a few years, it had been retrofitted with a Perkins V8 540 diesel engine. Would just about get itself to 30mph on a flat motorway...if it even saw a slight incline you were down below 20mph. Once towed a Scammell Explorer from Preston down the M6 to Stockport... at one point on the motorway we were down below 5mph... very scary and never again.

Also had a Artillery Tractor with the B81 petrol...possibly the one you mentioned being off roaded.

  8. I can really appreciate the work you are putting into restoring your Chieftain. I am ahead of you by about 8 months in restoring my Mk 10 in Oregon, USA.

Lets stay in touch and share information.

I will post if I can figure out how to some photo of my project..

I really would like to find some specific parts.. As you can imagine it is even harder being in the USA to get and find parts...

I would love to get the main gun control box and some extra track links my tracks is very shot...

looking forward to staying in touch

    thanks

Rick....I cannot see Mark in any pictures !

  9. Why bother nobody takes any notice of this limit anyway... even the Army, often see 432 driver training vehicles running from Bordon at far greater than 20 mph, go up the A1 to Caterick and exactly the same there CVRTs doing well in excess of 20 mph.
