1. after tackling wartime kit these look like a walk in the park :-D

john there's a guy near ulverston doing it for £70/hour so going to be £800 or so for the pair. i can't help but laugh at my misfortune, after 6 years i finally buy a truck big enough to move the cromwell then end up selling it the same month. i bought a 38 ton low loader a week ago on monday and decide to buy the cents on the wednesday which would be great if it could carry them. lol i'm destined to give my money to the uk haulage industry

Can he get both on one load if your paying by the hour !

  2.

YouTube video - film transfered to video - Film taken by a member of 59 Commando Squadron RE of their action in the Falklands (I think the camera man was the commanding officer - he is in a BBC interview about the Falkalnd minefields)

Includes footage of a CET training for beach landing on Ascension Island en-route down south.

In doing a bit more research located a mention of the CET loss in Edward Fursdon's book - "Falklands Aftermath". This also mentions in passing the loss and subsequent recovery of the Haulamatic's off the Mexeflote.

The blown up CET also gets a mention on the ARRSE Forum - but no photos. (Mexe incident also gets a mention under the Sappers section)

Absolutely fantastic footage, CET actually swimming in the sea off beach in Ascension, never knew this existed !

  3. You maybe overestimating how these guys worked. We couldn't rely on mains powered clocks as the frequencies weren't correct. The clocks used to lose about 10 minutes every hour in the accommodation blocks (as we had US 120v power converted to 240v) and gain 10 mins in every hour in the Tech site. It was a nightmare!

Just checked the gauges the frequency gauge will only go to 55 Hz.

  4. From where are you getting the 120v reading? I have a proper generator tester, gives voltage and frec unloaded and loaded. When output is measured with a usual VOM meter it differs wildly.

It has an analogue volt meter on the panel which is wher I am getting the reading. I connected a 240 angle grinder to the 3 pin plug outlet, as soon as I operate the switch the trip operates. As I say the Hz is spot on, again from a gauge on the panel.

  5. Recently purchased one of the many Air Log 5.6 KvA 240v generators being sold off by Withams. After sorting fuel system problems and putting engine oil in it (it was empty not just low) ran it up only to find it is only delivering about 120v. Hz are correct at 50 cycles on the dial so not an engine rpm problem (presume 3000rpm). Does anybody have manuals or any ideas what may be wrong ?

  6. No contam available any more that job is all covered by specialist collection companies for reprocessing. M35 is a good vehicle to run had one a my regular weekend show vehicle for last 9 years.

  7. Yes of course its Andys . my son and i poped in to see him and what a nice guy he was. very helpful and know his stuff my son and i were just breathless at the size of this tank . frankly i didn't think it was real when we first walked in i really thought it was a GAG tank made of wood just be ridiculousness massive for his show . you just cant beleave how masive it really is it would cover 3 lanes on the motorway . you couldn't drive it on duel carriage way i think its to wide unless it was in the verge on both sides . and he said it has a 3 mile range holly crap . the motor was out and thats as big as the back of a transit van all on its own

Sorry to disappoint but Andy's tank is a Challenger 1 which is 11'6" wide, a standard UK motorway lane is 12', which can reduce to 10" without notification and less than that with notification (signage on the motorway).

  8. hi nick

not actually booked it yet but i've been told £60 per day is the going rate and i need it for a couple of weeks so might be able to work a bit more discount. i'll let you know when i speak to the fella that rents them

    rick

Hinchcliffe in Bury seem to be the local ones, Craig rented one of them week before last for taking Warwick's M41 to Wickstead. (His own trailer was being used for something else). Suspect Craig will have one off them again around YWE as he will be flat out shifting stuff into the event.

  9. hi all I am looking for a fuel tank for Austin champ and also the rubber garters for the front and back axels and other bits you got thanks Richard.

I have axle gaiters. New manufacture in modern rubber. One of only 2 suppliers in UK and 3 in the world. £25 each postage at cost or may be able to deliver foc depending where you are located.

  10. Haha excellent. Tricky buggers when you are trying to steer them dead - ask Deb who normally draws the short straw - she was toning up her muscles last week as it happened as we were shifting a dead un. I told her it was cheaper than a gym membership.

Anyway what goes around comes around, because 12DM61, which was the one that originally was destined for Leconfield has now followed me home and is sitting in the yard. I must say it is looking a bit worse for wear - since I last saw it anyway. I don't suppose that anyone has an offside engine side panel do they? it is missing a variety of other bits too but I have not had chance to have a really good look - it arrived in a bit of a hurry and we have been on with loads of other stuff (not least the 3a).

When I get the two of them side by side I will post a pic or two.

Oh and for the record - there is no longer a Mk3 in Rush Green. When I enquired where it had gone I was met with an enigmatic smile. That said I think I know where it has gone, but it isn't for me to speculate!

Very close number to my old Antar, 12DM60 now in the ownership of Mervyn Annetts in Basingstoke.

  11. the foden arrived at the yard this morning but didn't get much chance to look round it as had some building work to finish today, although i did notice one strange thing and that is the manufacturers plate on the chassis states the vehicle can go up to 65 ton at 40mph but the paperwork in the cab says 44 ton with a design weight of 55 ton. why does it have 2 of what i assume to be special types weight categories

Rick if that chip in the windscreen is in the line of vision you will have to get it replaced before it goes for test

  12. Hello all, out of my field on these vehicles but here goes.

I have a very good friend who does some engineering for a company that contracts work to the Indian Air Force.

He makes some nozzles that are used as part of a cleaning system & power recovery on aircraft engines and has done so for a number of years.

The main contractor has asked if he could do something similar for the T72 and also the OT90. Before he can answer he would like to have a look at the engines of both vehicles.

So is there anyone that would be happy to let him have a look, he is in Bedfordshire but more than happy to travel.

Please contact via PM, and thanks in advance.

I have access to T72 and BMP 2 (probably same engine as OT90 but will stand corrected by the experts) both in north

    Manchester / Lancashire area.
