So - if it is still to be deactivated , that means it was a Direct MOD release sale , I wonder where it has been these last few years ?
The other possibility is that it was originally purchased by someone who had a Firearms Certificate and has held on to it for a while....
I was just searching through an old file and found an old MOD Tender catalogue from 17 December 1992, l noticed that there were 89 Chieftain MBT MK 10's listed. 07FA14 was listed as lot number 193 which just happens to be the same number as the one recently advertised in the Withams tender !
My suggestion is that it was purchased by Withams in the MOD Tender in 1992, and has been stored with the other 17 they purchased at the time inside the big hangar until it was refurbished around 3 years ago and the Chieftains moved outside under heavy canvas sheets.
For interest I have attached the relevant pages of the MOD Tender and the recent Withams catalogue.

Thought he was pedaling fast then at the end you find it has an engine !

hmm yea it could be more hassle than its worth..cheers for the info tho..
Just a pipe dream atm :-)
Will see about insurance etc in the future.
Should be no problem with insurance for a historic military vehicle carrying another historic military vehicle as long as all the legal weight requirements are met. Fuel consumption on Drops would be a drawback compared to a commercial rigid.

Or two to take you for an improptu bath!! :-D :-D
Looking at mine the other day I reckon the lake will turn brown as it is still caked in W&P mud from last year!!
Oh please no ! I haven't learnt to swim yet !
On a more serious note have you ever seen pictures of a CET swimming, they were nicknamed "THE FROG" by the RE. They were also nicknamed "the CRRAV TRAILER" by the REME.

Haha ye eccentrics please come to the fore

I will also be at the show with my ot-90 too, should be next to neils so there will be two parked next to each other and we are planning on doing some syncronised ot-90 swimming :-)

Give any of the utility companies a call, plenty of tracked excavators all over the country digging up pavements !

I do not see an issue with the rim width, a few years ago I converted my 2.5 ton Reo off 9.00 x20's onto 11.00 x 20's again due to the rarety of the 9.00's, understandably anything bigger may be difficult to get onto the rim. Fortunatly the Reo has adjustable steering stops, I had to adjust these out fractionally. Does the K9 have adjustable stops ?
The added increase in rolling radius also gives higher gearing which helps reduce engine speed when cruising.

There is a clue in the name then? Thanks hoseman, I will see if I have the means to measure it, could you tell me the TPI in case it isn't in Zeus?
What I am aiming to do is to convert this 4WD box into 2WD which I am hoping is as simple as connecting up 2 flows with their returns....once I am absolutely sure which is which ...I am guessing male to female...:undecided:
What is it off in the first place, when you say 4 wheel drive were there 4 individual outlets and returns ? Problems may occur if you blank off 2 ports to make it 2wd we need more info.

I doubt in this country we are allowed to fart through a gun barrel and ignite it. I'm sure we can improvise though with some form of device. As I think back to early 90s with a Grizzly, we used Thunderflash or Maroons shoved in the breech at some event.
Just dug this up... A much younger me driving with our mate Phyll Baker to my right who sadly passed away a couple of years ago around Xmas Eve. The guy above was just an interloper. lol

The guy above is Roy ? The tank was called Maine ? Question is where was Mr Grumbly ?

I see I'm going to have to dig out the box of RR B series tools to make a comparison .... it may take a while.

With screen and hood down will do even better !

Could you take a picture with a common item next to it so we get an idea of exact size ?

Amongst all the boxes, hoses and clips which were part of my Champ purchase the other day on EBay, I came across this tool, which I don't believe is a Champ tool:
Along the length of it it has the following written on it:
TOOL NO B 306 681. GR ET USED ON A 305 043
Any clues?
Could be one of the RR B series engine tools, not sure which one though.

Yes it was a good turn out with a good selection of Mv. The only thing missing was tracks . The weather was great, which brings the public out and the show has something for ever one. Looking forward to the nation show now the champ is going on a trailer for that one.
Regards Tony
By the national show do you mean wicksteed ? If so I will be there with CET and I know there are definately some more tracked vehicles coming.
John.

Hi John
Thanks for the info went to my first long trip in the champ this weekend with a trailer (Smallwood) aprox 100 miles. Got 15 to the gallon. Didn't won't to start looking at the charb, points ect if 15 reasonable.
Regards Tony
Were there many there at Smallwood? Nearly went myself with the CET but too busy doing restoration work.

Chieftain L60 13a was standard pack in late vehicles ,but was also labled11A.. But there are 14A which were export, and relabled 12A in 1980. The engines are basically the same with minor improvements to blowers or sealing rings. All 11,12,14 and even a 15, are between 800-850bhp rated top on colour of crank means very little . Hope this helps!
Thanks for the info, anything is of help,
By top on colour of crank do you mean cover of crank, ie reference to "red top" engines ?

Hi all.
wot sort of mpg you get from a Austin Champ with and with out a trailer ?
thanks Tony
15 to 18 mpg

Lovely. How did you guys get on cutting off the welded on blank and extracting the cut off original bolts?
Alastair
The answer to that is with great difficulty, that chrome weld is hard to cut through with a cutting wheel, The bolts were then drilled out and re-tapped. The forklift had to be employed to get it on as its very heavy.
Rick......that sounds expensiiiiiiiive !

If only all problems with AFVs were that easy to fix!
I can agree on that one, I spent the next 5 hours fitting 1 nut and bolt to the fuel injection pump drive shaft and checking the pump timing on my CET.

Does anyone have or know where a list of variants can be found showing the different Mks of packs fitted to the Chieftain. I have a Mk13A fully reconned by ABRO Catterick in November 2004 but have had an e-mail conversation with a chap in USA who would prefer a 14A which I did not even know existed!

I'll answer on Ricks behalf as he is very busy, 293 miles each way by the route they will be taking (avoiding Dartford crossing and its toll for wide loads).
