  1. Hello Andy From what I have been told, the last show ground he was on was very wet and he did indeed need to use four wheel drive, and it performed very well even with the larger tyres. As for the steering again not affected that much to worry about.Just have an extra weetabix for breakfast. Regards Howard
  2. Hello Andy The owner of the Truck that I did the work for, took the truck on a very long run about 3 weeks ago, He drove the control unit up there first, and came back by train. He then took his RL AFS recovery truck to the same show, the recovery used alot more fuel.He said that the control unit was a pleasure to drive, the larger tyres dont fowl up and have improved the speed, and maybe the fuel economy. Thanks Howard
  3. Well done Clive they are some cracking pictures there, looks like everybody enjoyed the weekend,it just goes to show how much olive drab is an attraction, or was it the truck! Howard.
  4. Hi Malcolm Thats some great pics,The convoy there was great, and coming back last night in the dark was brilliant, the trailer looked really good with all the marker lights lit up. I think this 40s event has to be the highlight of the show season for me, dont know what it is but it has such a great atmosphere, and I should think 95% of the people are dressed for the occasion. If anybody has not been then its a must for next year, I plan on booking in very soon for next year. As for the Blonde Yes a great wing walker. Howard
  5. Well done Malcolm you have have done a nice Job, I like that old fork lift, nice old bit a kit, you wont go short for a log or two. Howard
  6. Hello Degsy Thanks for that, Ive never had alot to do with a DUKW so unsure of the rim size. Thanks Howard
  7. I may be wrong, but I was told that if you decided to run 900 x 20 tyres on a jimmy that you would not have a rubbing problem with the rear tyres if the inner wheels were Duck wheels. Does this mean anything to some one. I have not used a duck wheel so could not say if the dish or offset was different to a standard GMC rim. Howard.
  8. Hi N.O.S I am not sure where the trucks were when the pictures were taken, but you could well be right, might have been the US or even Australia. Although the pic with the workshop trailer, could well have been the US. I have to admit that when I do change the tyres on the Tractor unit I am still not sure what to put on it, the ride on a road tyre would be allot better. Howard.
  9. With regard to different tyres, if you look on the restoration thread of my Tractor Unit, there are some Black and white pics of Tractor units with different tyres. Howard
  10. Hi Paul Look out for the GMC Tractor unit and trailer, are put the kettle on or open the Bar. Howard
  11. Hi Paul Yep there sure are, they have quite a few stalls at the Holt end of the event in the Meadow, beside the station, well worth a visit, I will stake my life on that. Nice one Clive, I might well need a driveway to park the truck and trailer over night, hint hint. Howard
  12. I plan on leaving for Holt, Norfolk, on Thursday 13th September ready for the 1940s weekend, If any body is planning on doing the same and wants to meet up for a convoy, then let me Know, I am leaving Eye in Suffolk, about 10.30 - 11 am, on the Thursday for a long weekend then come back on the Monday. This is a great event, and if you are not booked in with a vehicle its still a good day out on the Saturday or Sunday. Howard.
  13. Well done with the new purchase, there's plenty of people here who can help, should you have any questions. Howard
  14. To give you some idea of costs,to dispose of the tyres correctly they will cost £7.50 each to have collected, I know this as I had 40 collected the other day, so before you start thats a cost of £75 plus vat, well thats if you dispose of them, chances are its a rebuild from the chassis up. Are you going to do the work your self or have it restored, you need to take all of this into account. But if you do decide to take her on enjoy and have fun theres alot of satisfaction in rebuilding your own vehicle. Regards Howard.
  15. I do know of a very nice closed cab GMC 353 cargo, but not sure of the price, it was advertised on HMVF some while ago. Regards Howard.
  16. Tom Nice to see you are cracking on with the old girl. David yes I am hoping to get to Rougham Saturday afternoon early eavening. Regards Howard
  17. David Are you going on the saturday and camping over or just thr sunday for a day trip. Howard
  18. Hello Tom Thats a great looking truck and a real nice project, a word of warning on that diesel conversion, they are a nice engine, but I do know if you fit them into a GMC, you do have to remove the sump and cut it about, this is due to it fowling up on the front Diff. Why not measure up and see if you can put in a GMC straight six Petrol engine, you still get a nice note from one of them, not quite the same as a V8 though.Let me know when you are about and are come and have a shifty.
  19. Hello Graham Not a bad Idea at all. Howard
  20. Hello Snapper, As far as I am aware his vehicle was the only one done, but this I cannot confirm, but what a Horrible and stupid thing to do, there really are some waste of spaces about.Trouble is it does not encourage my self to want to go to a show where things like that take place, but of course this could have been the one off, and hope it does not take place again. Howard.
  21. On a slightly different subject did any body have any problems with damage to there vehicles at W & P, the reason I ask is because a friend of mine had there cars exhaust filled with expanding foam. Theres some funny people about. Howard
  22. I have been reading this tread with interest, and I think that wheather a truck is advertised for £3000 or £9000, if the buyer really wants it then he or her will buy it. A GMC that I restored recently sold for just over £8000 and I think it was worth every penny. I suppose its all down to what you think something is worth to you, and what you can afford to spend. Thats my pennys worth. Howard.
  23. Hi Guys there a great couple of videos, thanks for posting them. Howard
