  1. You appear to misunderstand, there was no mention of the law being changed, the point I was making is all to do with false declaration of the year of manufacture. This applies equally to M35A1 and M35A2 as they were built during the same time period.

  2. There is no such thing as a pre 1960 Reo whistler. There are plenty out there declared as pre 1960 but strictly speaking none of these are legal. I am led to believe DVLA are aware of this situation and will be taking action. If and when this happens owners would be liable to prosecution as every year you are declaring that details are correct and would no longer be able to drive these vehicles on a car licence and they would be subject to an annual test.

  3. Forgive my denseness... might be the distance across the pond... but I don't get the remark. I get the politicians part.... they succeeded with you and they re trying with us. "Go off?" That's the part I don't get.

He means dislike people. Brit slang expression.

  4. Does anyone have any information or manuals or even pictures of these...

my interest in amphibious vehicles has just gone up a gear!

parts could be useful too- I know how rare they are :(

    Cheers

Try Googling it, there are several pics on the internet.

  5. Over heating is not an inherent problem, like all vehicles if you lose coolant , continue to drive in any vehicle over heating will result and again in any vehicle will result in head damage. A big part of my brother in laws business is skimming heads, he can do up to 50 per week and Land Rover heads are no more prone to damage than other vehicles. I agree with Tony about cam belts but 200Tdi engine's damage from a broken belt is not usually catastrophic, just bent push rods.

  6. Perhaps you are thinking of the turbo engine which preceded the 200Tdi, that was a naturally aspirated 2.5 litre engine with minor mods and a turbo stuck on. It was trouble with a capital T and must have cost Land Rover a small fortune in warranty claims never mind the harm it did to their reputation.

  7. The reason that petrol is only for emergency use is that it lacks the lubricating properties required by the injection pump and if the waste fuel contains too high a percentage of petrol it will result in damage. Their used to be a link on Steel Soldiers to a chart which a guy had got a chemist friend to produce by which it was possible to work out the proportions of petrol and diesel in any quantity of fuel. ISTR it was based on Specific Gravity but my memory isn't what it once was so I could be wrong. The Americans use old lube oil rather than waste fuel but this requires a great deal of filtering and in cold weather needs to be preheated.

  8. He has a unit off Blackmarsh Rd on the Mochdre Ind estate next to ABC Auto Electrics, their address is Atlantic House

post code LL28 5HA and I assume Mike's address would be the same. His mobile number is 07876 687810.

I have no connection with him other than he repaired a starter for me some time ago. Any spares required wouldn't be a problem as Richard at ABC would be able to obtain anything required.

If I can help in any way give me a bell 07789 192990, evenings as where we are working at the moment there's no mobile signal.

  9. there used to be a tank on the waste land outside the TA centre in Prestatyn. The REME used to practice recovering it, but we used to play in it in the evenings. The TA welded the turret hatch open to stop anyone getting stuck in it. Then one day it had gone! It might have been a comet, and would love to know what became of it.

Try sending a PM to canuck 109 he might well know the answer.
