  1. :D:D:D

Yup I'm all 4x4'd up and ready to go. Just watch for the caravan behind me!!!

Can't believe the cubedmeister is leaving tomorrow morning. I've still got a long day followed by a day learning about speech and language to go before I can set off

Sounds like a 'sickie' required;). Unfortunately I can't be there this time but I'm looking forward to seeing the photo's and video's. Hope it all goes well.

  2. More than enough room there Rich, all the cars will have moved. This is the route the artics are using.

    - want Rosie to drive :D

At least Rosie shouldn't get stuck this year now she's got a a Land Rover:D

PS I hope you've taught her what the little gear lever's for Richard;)

  3. So that is what flew over our house last Friday, I thought it was a Hercules at first, then I noticed the higher tail plane. We get a lot of unusual aircraft flying over as we are on the edge of Salisbury Plain.

Apparently there are only 6 in service so far, there have been a lot of problems both engine wise and structurally.

  4. A400M Atlas the replacement for the C130 Hercules flying over the Conwy Valley. The Hercs usually fly so low over the river that the prop wash is visible on the water but the Atlas was much higher. This particular aircraft may not have been delivered yet but could have come from Airbus at Broughton near Chester. This is a designated low flying area and we get a large variety of British, American and NATO aircraft overhead every day, the most common being the Hawks from Valley, Anglesey.

As regards the magazines the question no one has answered yet is how the hell do you weld polymer magazines into steel receivers?? For starters the AK range uses both Bakelite and Polymer magazines - neither of which are weldable!

I think the short answer to that will be no mag fitted and spots of weld on the receiver to prevent fitting of said item.

The other issue is that here, almost all fuel contains 10% ethanol, and who knows what this adds to the equation. I have read on the landscapers' forums that all their small equipment (trimmers, lawnmowers, etc) has fuel problems due to ethanol additive and I'm wondering whether military engines might suffer as well. Not sure if you Brits have same ethanol additive as we do...

Ethanol is added to petrol over here and it does cause problems on older vehicles, some manufacturer's are also not happy about Ethanol but the Government have allowed its use. I use a lead substitute additive which also contains an additive to combat ethanol because it damages seals in the carb/fuel system with potentially disastrous results.

  7. I am well aware of the reason for having the Ebay adverts on the forum but surely they should be restricted to military items. Recently civilian vehicle adverts have been creeping in, is this an attempt to slowly bring in more and more adverts by slipping in the odd civilian advert and if nobody complains then gradually filling the forum up with this rubbish?

  8. Looks very similar to an air raid warning siren that was mounted on the roof of a GPO telephone exchange that I used to pass on my way to and from school many years ago.

  9. The British/German type filler doesn't necessarily mean it is an USMC can, if it is it will be marked as such. Apparently a lot of the American screw type were converted post war for use in the civilian market.
