  1. What colour is it below the Paint?? The Rural patrol helmet or Helmet GRP came out in roughly I think 1975, also known as the NI helmet and is the forunner to the Para and ultimatly the Mk6. Ta Jon
  2. As far as I am aware and every one of the Rural Patrol helmets I have seen are in black. The later green ones are proberly the Para helmets, not to sure though. Jon
  3. I think hoods were seldome worn except in the field and as such, most are found in an almost new condition. Jon
  4. These Liners, that suposed to keep you warm, well.............They don't work, now had first hand experience over weekend at camp Okehampton marching up and down Rowtor in the darn wind Jon
  5. That there is a Curve Ball you just thrown...lol Looks like they copied the 85 pattern version looking at the colour of the green and brown. I take it it has the pocket on the right arm? Although it is a good find to have as many a squadie purchased there own things. Jon
  6. There was also a sleeve-less liner see our web site: http://www.forces80.com/uniformv2p2.htm I have worn the size 1 hood with my size 8 jacket and it seemed to fit okay. The size 2's are indeed a rarity. Jon
  7. Anyone comes across a Size 9 63 or 68 windproof in a non faded condition I would be very happy if you let me know, will pay but not over the top. Ta Jon
  8. There have been several court cases where these have come up. Some say they have to be deactivated and some say they dont. New ones are now deactivated. The thing is if you can actualy get the reload which has to be installed in the factory then you are the type of person that can get the real thing. It is a one shot weapon just like a bullet case, if it is classed as a section 5 then why are not milan tubes. Law 80's should be deactivated or put beyond use because of the 9mm barrel in it. At the end of the day its down to how arsy the Police officer is, along with the judge. Jon
  9. Been very tired mentaly, just getting back into the spirit of things. Some of you guys may want to pop over to the Forces 80 facebook page, some interesting stuff crops up there as well. So going back to designations: official vs Collectors Smock Combat (1960 Pattern) / 1960 pattern (60 pattern DPM?? Not got a label to hand) / 1966 pattern Smock Combat (1968 Pattern) / 1968 Pattern Smock Combat / 1968 Pattern Smock Combat DPM / 1984 or 1985 Pattern Smock Combat Temperate DPM / 1990 Pattern ?? Jon
  10. Yes I wholey agree. There is the official designation and the collectors pattern, I am so used to using the collectors terminology that it will be a while before I get my head around it. Jon
  11. Is this the stuff that I refer rightly or wrongly, to as the 90 pattern???? That there are two types, the normal temperate in the darker DPM then the weired coloured one which I have heard refered to as Tea pattern, which is a orangy in colour. It was rumoured that this colour of dpm was brought in for bosnia. Jon
  12. There is one picture in the falklands of Paras and all three types of helmets are in the shot. Steel, new pattern with leather strap and one with the newer webbing strap. The reason why they switched from the leather harness to the current style; as told by a para, is that the leather harness one did not provide enough grip and the helmet used to snap orward when the chute opened and the poor para ended up with a broken nose. Terry gander puts the issue of the Rural Patrol Helmet (NI helmet) at 1975. And as far as i know the Para one derives from that. Ta Jon
  13. OMG sod the Helmet, Thats a nice helmet cover, Give it here you git, I want it. If the helmet is Black in colour its the Northern Ireland patrol helmet, if not I think its the first type Para kevlar helmet. Ta Jon
  14. Mark Thats not the correct one, so you either have to stick to your Cold Weather cap or see a head shrinking tribesman. It is, I think, a 90's thing onwards and not an '70/80's thing. Jon
  15. Falklands Medal with Roset can go for in the mid to high 100's Sorry you got to sell your medals Jon
  16. Instant thought is a '68 pattern but then you think that may be thhis is a trick question...Got a Picture? Questions: Is it double lined with an olive material? Are the pockets closed with buttons or press studs? Is it a stiched colar? Obvious question is it in DPM? Do you know the NSN? Ta Jon
  17. I beleive the UN have set up camps on the second floor for those that can't find there way out. Jon
  18. LOL...Instruction manuals... YOU WOT!? Real men don't use instructions :cool2: When I first got my SLR I stripped it that far down that the hammer piston flew past my ear as I had accidently pulled the trigger and it took me 3 hours to find it. I had the gun in 2 halves as well as I had even undone the hinge pin. I also Now after much swearing know how to change stocks, pistol grips etc. If you come across Forces 80 members inthe field they will be very happy to demostrate how to strip the SLR in under 5 seconds (I may be lying there :-D). The manual arrived two years later with a big OH! thats how you do it..lol :red: ta Jon
  19. Don't know about you but it looks weired? All those different DPM material used for various parts, it looks thrown together....lol Jon
  20. It is an eye opener, mind you make sure you have had all your shots first especialy against flea bites. Carry plenty off food and water, dont put anything down especialy personal items as you will never find them again (I lost my lemmings cap in there), carry a mobile phone and make sure yo have a red rope tied to your waist and then to a secure point out side the building so that some one can pull you out if you get into difficulty. Just shouting help when a pile of clothing falls on you wont cut it. LOL Jon
  21. Oh I agree, I have learnt that one over time. Colour is a good one but as you say not the pattern, we explored in depth on the old c20 forum about colours and even button colour and design in such a manner there were complaints that we were overwhelming the forum...lol I think we were upto page 20 before it went all tits up. Jon
