  1. Hey Jack You forgot to say you only beat us back to the ferry because our van was only running on 3 cylinders. regarding the joys of SIX, didnt Kev point out to you that the car you were in had a six speed gearbox after traveling nearly 300 miles only useing 5th. Jim.
  2. Yep, cracking weekend as usual despite our Citroen hire van breaking down. Good to meet up with Joris at last also Jack and Kev. There was a rumour that Kev introduced Jack to the "joy of SIX" but I will let him tell you about that as my moto is, what goes on the trip stays on the trip Jim.

  5. Andy yes it is lovely around here and yes the farmer was lucky. Actualy he did gash his arm trying to stop it running away, it could have been much worse. The pictures dont really show how steep the hill is and how far the tractor had gone down into the gap between the back of the shed and the hillside. Jim.

Its nice to own vehicles with winches and wrecking gear but its also nice to be able to use them now and again.Last Thursday a local farmer had an unfortunate experiance when his tractor and trailer rolled down a steep hill and crashed into the back of one of his sheds. Another farmer tried to recover the vehicles but failed so we were called to see what we could do. I went and looked at the situation and decided the Mack would be just the answer. After pulling the trailer clear first we then attached the winch rope to the rear of the tractor and gently pulled it up and back onto level ground. With the Mack you use the main gearbox to power the winch giving you 5 forward speeds and 1 reverse. I just used first gear and with the engine on tickover the job was a piece of cake for the Mack The damage to the tractor was just tin work and fortunately the farmer wasnt on it when it rolled away. Hi John, thats correct you just turn the horn button left or right, it does not matter which, about 30 deg and it will come out.Having said that they are sods to turn as one of the three locating lugs has little ears on to stop it turning by it self and coming off.You have to push it past these to release the button. If you need any more info I can send some pics of a NOS horn button kit I have with all the bits in. Jim.
  10. Thanks for all your kind comments,we do not own this vehicle therefor do not know much about its history or use in WW2. As many of you know our collection here is all American WW2 vehicles but I must admit I did fall in love with this truck.Thanks for the pic Les I dont think we have seen that one before. CW, not sure what shows the owner will be atending but I am sure it will be out and about next year. Jim.
  11. We have just finished making the canvas covers for the Humber pictured below. As you can see the frame on the pickup body lifts off to form a radio shack (we think, as this is a radio truck) There is a communication tube between the cab and rear body. The "windows" are made from copper mesh as per original. Jim.
  12. Yes they do but I think it is an optical illusion caused by the shadows and sunlight. Also the tyres were a bit flat as well which did not help. Jim.

  14. This is my Mack NO as I bought it last year. Havent done much to it apart from a new rear canvas tarp and end curtains.The cab is coming off soon to be restored to original spec.And after putting £300-00 worth of fuel in to go to "Route to Victory" in may(140 mile round trip) I am fitting a Cummins L10 diesel engine for better mpg also more bhp. As you all know we "ALLIED FORCES" sponsor this site so I do not intend getting into an argument over whos canvas products are best.I am sure when buying canvas goods you all weigh up the for and against of suppliers whether it be the cost, colour of the canvas or the quality of the end product. I just want to comment on some of the points raised by the forum members so far. Degsey is right, first of all go back to the supplier tell them about the problem you have and hopfully they can sort it. If you think about it logicaly if you bought some duff food say from Tesco you would return it to them not go on a relevent "Food suppliers" forum. I dont know where Bigredones friend bought his jeep hood from, it was not one of ours as we dont have a seam down the middle.Again go back to the supplier and complain. I dont think putting detergent on new canvas would be a good idea as it would probably destroy the proofing agent. The canvas we use comes already rot and weather proofed it does NOT need extra proofing of any kind. I know people have used Thompsons weather seal to good effect on old canvas, but I have never used it so cannot comment. Hope this helps. Jim.

    Fantasy Barn

    I already have my fantasy barn, I live in it (I am not joking, as many of you know) I just need one more toy to make up my ten vehicles 1944 FORD GPW JEEP 1942 DIAMOND T 968 CARGO 194? ALLIS CHALMERS M4 HIGH SPEED TRACTOR (coming soon) I think No 10 would either be a Harley WLA, Dodge WC57 Command Car or Ward-La-France wrecker. Jim.

  21. At last years 40s weekend at Bristol docks, we made a set of rail wheels and fitted them on Paul Grays Jeep, then ran the Jeep up and down the docks railway line.   24. Hi ABN, any chance you can give us the link to the pictures as there are not many of engineers equipment that I know of. By the way my ex-wifes uncle drove armoured dozer's in WW2 some of his stories are incredible. If you have a copy of the book "Monte Cassino" by Matthew Parker he is mentioned on page 314 his name is Stan Goold. Jim.
