  1. Looks like parts from the No1 base for the WS11.
  2. I thought it had to be an X as neither of the strokes are vertical, ruling out K and the join is too far down to be a Y. As for Wiki errors, yes well, the less said the better! Well done for pinning it down.
  3. You can discount several options by looking at what squadrons those codes related to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_RAF_squadron_codes
  4. Looks like DX which was 4 sqdn SAAF. They were in Italy in 44 flying ground attack sorties.
  5. Not a re-enactor but Wikipedia, (I know, I know) says :-The term "Ammunition boots" is a generic term for these heavy, studded ankle boots, which were produced in a variety of patterns. The name supposedly comes from the boots' being historically procured by the Master Gunner and the Munitions Board at Woolwich (the Regiment of Artillery's headquarters) rather than Horse Guards (the headquarters of the British Army), and being of 'ammunition quality'. No idea if this is correct but sounds plausible.
  6. If it's a BOC Pug, I have one with a long and short track. I can measure and photograph it in the morning but it's an Aluminium extrusion, about 6" wide with four raised ribs. One about 1/4" in from each side for the drive wheels and a pair with a 1/4" gap between them in the centre for the support wheel.
  7. Other than being Lucas, I have no idea! Is the flex conduit going spare?
  8. Looks like International halftrack. 100 amp without needing a shunt.
  9. Do you have any wartime anti tank items? 2, 6 and 17 pdr?
  10. One comment I would make is the pre-1960 exemption is 'used unladen' not non-commercial. If claiming the exemption it must be used unladen and or towing an unladen trailer. You can't carry any load, even if private. I suppose for a recovery vehicle, the used commercially might apply as you can't really have one unladen!

  12. My experience is different. The 298 I use matches Mikes swatches and also matches a No 9 aerial base I just unwrapped. The latter is one of a batch I bought many years ago, all sealed. Most were green, some were brown so unlikely to be post 1960's repaint and packs. I have seen more variation in modern interpretation of BS298 than exist in what I have just described. The same applies to Service Brown BS499. In a matt finish, I'm happy it matches SCC2 very closely, others disagree but with brown in particular, gloss level makes a huge difference to the perceived colour. If modern paint manufactures cant always perfectly match each others colours, I'm not sure why some are so sure of the accuracy of colour 80 years ago. I'm also not convinced that when BS381 was expanded post war, they decided to very slightly change some of the colours whilst retaining the same names!
  13. The US ones tend to have an internal connection from coil to rotor as the coil is mounted under the same cover adjacent to the distributor shaft, hence the lead terminals being offset.
  14. Which you very kindly let me drive at Battle Day at that time! I was so impressed, I bought one. There was nearly 40 years between the two events, however.....
