  1. Here is the exact spec on the Polsten Quad, It's quiet a weight to tow and you know it's behind especially when you hit a hill . I need to construct a large lighting board as the Polsten is wider than the GMC. It takes four guys to remove the trailer from the mounting as it has to be lifted to chest height to unhook the rear mountings. I tried it with Just two of us which we managed but ended up with a pair of white underpants that looked like the Japaneese flag. The Tyres are 10.50x16 and brand new, they still have the casting pimples on the tread regards Steve Rate of fire 450rds per min Effective ceiling 6630 ft Muzzle velocity 2725 ft/s RiflingConcentric RH twist, 1 in 720 Magazine capacity30rd box or 60rd drum Overall length of gun 84" Length of barrel 57" Weight of gun 126lb (57kg) Weight of 60rd mag empty 31lb 8oz (14.3kg) Weight of 60rd mag full 64lb (29kg) Weight of 20mm round 8oz (225g) Date of manufacture 1944 ManufacturerJohn Inglis Company, Canada Mounting weight 3910lb (1777kg) Platform weight1 320lb (600kg) Carriage weight 1665lb (757kg) Total weight of quad gun 6895lb (3134kg)
  2. Hi Jack,We tend to stay in the Midlands area as Fuel now is not cheap and we seem to be able to attend about 12 small to meduium size shows a year.I will be at Severn Valley Railway for a week in June/July then various one day events within about 40 miles of Birmingham. I'll probably attend Beltring as I'm in need of some bits and bobs but thats about it. As for the Polsten weighing in at over 3 tons ,It'll only be going to a few shows this season,,,,,,,but anyones welcome to call in if your heading through the Midlands and give it a whirl. Behind the 352 this afternoon Regards Steve
  3. Well after much consideration and a lot of sucking up to the Mrs I brought the Polsten Quad that was Advertised on Milweb a few weeks back. We managed to get it delivered eventually but thats another story, and started to work on it. My aim was to get it running in a week and painted within 2 week to start the Show season. Lots of bits had been removed and painted by the previous owner so we had to put it all back together. The Hydraulic hoses were leaking badly so they needed replacing, they were outragously expensive. New Hydraulic oil and some fuel then finally we started it and it burst into life. Its going to be quite a show piece adding to the rest of the gear we've got. Heres the first time we started it with hydraulic fluid in the system. Regards Steve
  4. Hi ?? ,Ive just sent you a PM on the WWII forum requesting info on your Polsten Quad.I've just brought on of Milweb and after reading your post It seems like your willing to help a fellow OD sufferer fix stuff. What I need is to take a look at yours to see what parts I need to obtain or make. The sights are missing and the rear arm that moves the main sight bar is also gone.

Anychance I could pop over and take a look ,I'm only up the road in Knowle ,Solihull.

  6. I've got a B17 manual (2part) ,Morris Light Recon manuals, Polsten Quad AA gun all in PDF format ,may have a few others aswell. How do I upload them /send them?? regards Steve
  7. Thanks for all the replies ,It seems to me from the answers that as long as it was made before 1961 and is braked and doesn't exceed the towing vehicles weight then its O.K!!! The Artillary I'm looking at is 3.1 ton and has a hydralic brakes attached to the towing eye similar to a modern braked trailer. regards Steve
  8. Can anyone tell me what the maximum permissable towing weight is for a trailer on a MV.The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of getting a piece of Artillary to tow behind the GMC Any help appriciated regards Steve
  9. The tank sealer is great ,I've done a dodge fuel tank and it's been fine .I've also done a Jerry can and the came out great aswell. The key to using the Tank sealer is to get the tank or Jerry can warm first,I used a hot air paint stripper ,The warmer you get the tank the smoother the sealer will flow. As mentioned before a little chemical metal to fill any small holes and you'll have great finished job.
  10. Hhahahahah Didn't the Germans have something like that??

  14. Hi Steve Thanks for your help,None of the locations are near Lapworth,Warwickshire unfortunateley. The search for the B17 continues, maybe I'll stumble across it in some obscure book somewhere from the RAF archives!! regards Steve
  15. Thanks Steve,The B17 I believe came down in the night so could have been returning from the raid on the14th It was reported on the 15th??The Story goes that the crew bailed out over Norfolk and the plane flew on for over a hundred miles before crashing into a field. There were no crew onboard the crashed aircraft??.The 2 old guys who visited the site with me last month now well into early 80's remember it very well , they took school dinners to the home guard who were guarding it and the school took all the children to see it. Here's a copy of an email I recieved from a guy who was also looking for the B17. The Lapworth site is almost certainly a B-17, because the Air Raid Precaution Records for 15/10/43 say "Flying Fortress reported crashed near Lapworth or Rowington in field between Tapster Lane and Lowsonford... police state map reference 618912". This is on the wartime Cassini grid, but the map reference ties up with our idea of where it crashed - close enough the know the site was a B-17 anyway. However, we have never managed to find any parts of the aircraft. At one point I looked at the B-17s participating in the Second Schweinfurt raid (14/10/43). There were lots missing in action - presumably over enemy territory. 92, 303, 385 and 388 Bomb Groups lost one B-17 each (destroyed in UK) and 384 Bomb Group lost 3. We know the following about these losses:- 92 BG - ? 303 BG - crashed Risley 384 BG - all abandoned over England on return, crashing at Wakerley Woods (Corby), Blaydon and Chetwode 385 BG - crashed Bovingdon 388 BG - crashed on take off The historian for 92 BG wrote to me (can't lay my hands on the letter at the moment), to say that the Lapworth B-17 was not from 92 BG. Griff was told that the aircraft was from Molesworth, which would make it 303 BG. All in all, pretty confusing. I suppose there is a chance that the aircraft was initially listed as missing in action, as it wasn't found until late in the day - the ARP report is from the following day. There were numerous aircraft missing from other Bomb Groups on that day. Steve If you can help in anyway or put me in the right direction of whom to contact with my search for the B17 I'd be very greatfull.I've been searching on and off for this aircraft for the last couple of years but yet to no avail Thanks for your time Kind regards Steve
  16. Thanks Steve,It's getting hard to find details ,I've been in touch with the RAF museum as It was reported by the ARP and I was told that a local RAF personal helped in the recovery, but no information was available from the Museum. I have visited the site where the B17 came to rest and was told by 2 eyewitnes's that it was virtually intact apart from wing damage caused by it hitting a tree and that there was lots of perspex lying around as well as loads of ammunition. I plan to do a metal detector search of the area this year providing I can get the land owners permission. Anyhelp would be very much welcome Thanks Steve
  17. Hi Steve, Firstly I'm very impressed with all the work you've put into this thread its very commendable and interesting. Secondly you may be able to help me find a Legend (Local Legend) I've been searching for a number of years for the history of a B17 that crashed in Lapworth,Warwickshire on 15th October 1943 according to the ARP report, but as of yet had no luck tracing this aircraft. Would you happen to have a book called "LOSSES OF THE US 8th & 9th AIR FORCES Volume 1: European Theater from June 1942 to December 1943 by Stan D Bishop and John A Hey MBE" It may be able to help with tracking down the identity to the Lapworth Legend. Any help would be appriciated Regards Steve (Great Name):-D:-D
  18. It's possibly an Engineers truck!!!!
  19. Your Spot on Mark ,We have the morris in the yard awaiting the better weather before removing the rare beast from under it's cover. I've got a 353 to finish first about3 weekends left and then I'll be starting a full restoration on the Morris,It's going to be a challenge but worth it being a British Historical vehicle for a change (for me anyway) . regards to all Steve
  20. I've got a GMC 353 with winch,a 352 with winch and No7 set and a 353 without winch ,all rag tops ;-)One lovely wooden Ben Hur to drag along behind. regards Steve
  21. Hi Tony,I never did get the manual ,but now you've brought it back to my attention I'll see what Santa can come up with :-D :-D regards Steve
  22.    I've just been to a Military scrap yard in Alvechurch which is being cleaned out, most of the military spares are going in a skip for the scrap value, all the oil filers/air filters are being burnt, Inner tubes burnt ,most of the parts are brand new, there are large bearings , seals ,clutches, cables, nuts bolts and washers etc by the ton being scraped. I spent 5 hours mooching and still didn't get to see every thing. It's criminal to see to all this expensive military gear going to waste.
  23. I had 4 kits from not so Jolleyover a couple of months, 3 worked fine one failed after about 4 miles, had to get the GMC towed home as I didn't have the old dissy plate with me and the old points had pitted badly ,Phoned him up and he said to do all the checks which I had already done,I even swapped the parts from one GMC to he other and explained this to him so it was guaranteed the part was knackered .I asked if he could send out a replacement next day delivery as we were going to a show in 2 days, He said he would only replace once he received the broken part back and it was tested which ment over a week before getting a replacement . I had to pay for another and the return postage for the knackered part before he would dispatch a replacement. In my opinion he personally wasn't very helpfull considering I brought 4 kits from him and a couple of his High output coils. However the products once working are a great asset to the reliability of the GMC's, Jeep and Dodge. Will be contacting http://www.pertronix.com I believe they do GMC kits and much cheaper than Frank Jolleys including the postage. Regards Steve
  24. Exactly the colour of my 3 GMC's It's a real nice green and always looks great when wiped over with WD40 regards Steve
