  1. Glad you got on ok with DC I think he will be a great help to you and your restorations like I said more landys than you can shake a stick at. must remember to pick up those odd champ bits the next time I call by.

Yes mate and thanks for Intro. Nice Bloke and good friend to have for LR stuff. I get the feeling you would always come away with something even if its a Nut and Bolt you need.........

He has a few nice vehicles there..........Old, Older and New :D

  2. Nice show, found lots of parts i need for my Landrover, only down side 2 cups of tea 2 bergers £14:shocked:

    nice day out

    Phil

Catering is never cheap, when I went I took full Bergen with butties and flask in side pouches......Purchases in Bergen and then on back to keep mooching. Anything large left with seller and picked up on route to car.

Seemed to work and cover most bases.......

Looked like a good day! I have missed the last 3 so November has a massive entry on kitchen calendar....saying MINE!

  3. Not technically spotted so much as got found by! Another 1968 2a FFR in Lancing near to where the Balltree pub used to reside. Apparently having mine there field stripped was inspiration for the owner to approach me and help kick him into restoring his!

Rover 8 or Rover 9 FFR????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    PICTURES Pleeassssseeeeeeeeeeeee

  4. Look what i found today :D

I hav'nt a clue either :nut: but i am sure it will come in handy  was a good sale at malvern got most of the bits for the champ thing and more !!!

After our Rampant thread on this the 2 locals get one each in the same week......That has to be good......Great purchase there RR. We can share specs and observ plungers etc.......I did have the wrong number in my phone.......LoL. Corrected now though :-D

  5. as far as the grease gun thing is concerned I've heard them called "Oddypots" although I don't know why. I've got one and you need to screw up the valve on the pot (the one where grease is coming out on yours) and then it should come out the lance. To get the lance off the nipple afterwards undo the valve on the pot. TBH they seem like a good idea, but I'm not sure as I just seem to end up covered in grease as it either squirts out of the pot or the lance. As it's double action, even picking it up can give you a greasy leg!

Aha I think they are more geared up for oil dispensing and maybe that flows better under pressure. When I next see Clive he will give me a tutorial :cheesy:

  6. Any time really next week prob evenings as the daylight improves, best buy oil in bulk to save £££££££££££ give me shout and we'll pop over not weds as he goes out shame you couldnt make Malvern as we have a spare seat.

    RR

Jeremy is Monday (tomorrow) night to soon as lots on in the week with work and stuff!

Cheers mate I'll PM you so you can text me with an Okay etc.

  7. RR it is all relative as you have an aim and timeline. The vehicles are always Works in Progress unless you are a Rivet Counter.

I think what you are doing is great and the quality and transformation speak leaps!

After June you can always revisit some parts you didn't remove and make a judgement call on what you do I guess.

Did you get my reply about meeting DC.......

    PM if you prefer etc................

    Champ looking good indeed :-D

  8. plus lots of elbow grease :nut:

Thats always the bit you can't quantify in terms of effort and time.

I have used one of those flapper sanding discs recently that will strip paint, wear away rivets and also gring down welding.

I hadn't used them until recently, but they work very well, especially on hard steel parts............:-D

  9. Has anyone tried a Leighs Paints product called Epigrip as that is what we spec on new steel in buildings and it is a Epoxy based paint, so would be very robust........

I guess good old HMG do a good base coat range also????????????????

I have also used the French paint Deproma and that is far superior to Hammerite, but can be topcoated........Even thinned with simple white spirit for spraying etc........................Very Good all in one paint, used in Marine environments etc.

  10. Of course you've guessed it some see these nipples as an invitation to inject grease into the hub :-X

Yes and well versed on Forum. Not hard to make that mistake unless you know or have documentation to hand to prevent.

That the reason why we love your input so much.............................If we are wrong you make sure we understand why and all that good stuff!.....

I intend to bring back the small gauge lubricators you mentioned to switch lubricators for the PIG and store the grease lance for future re-fitment.

  11. I am yet to experience as I dare say RR is on his Champ, but if the BB's in the nipples are seized I suppose the right thing to do is replace if unserviceable with a genuine 11B nipple?

Alternatively a good old soak in diesel / parafin may free them up. As with modern / smaller grease nipples it tends to be the little springs that fail if they corrode internally............

I can see a lesson just on lubrication Nipples on the horizon.................

Jeremy have you noticed a difference in 11B heights or stand off on you Champs like Clive suggests on the PIG......

Food for thought in case a tight space tolerance sheers the head off an 11B that is too tall and then you lose fluids........

Please note the PC description avoiding Nipple heights.................................:-X:-X:shocked::shocked::shocked::mad::mad::mad::-D

  12. Wayne that's a good result. I couldn't actually see the end termination you have. Most of them seem to come with conventional nipple, then the piece with 11B termination plugs into it. Although mine was NOS the rubber seal was failing in the adaptor piece & it leaked from this point. So I did away with the adaptor fitted the 11B fitting straight into the tube end.

When you have oil in it always store the end above the level of the oil supply otherwise it will dribble out slowly. The best way to use oil is to fill up an empty grease can. I made the mistake of filling the tank up without this & there was a tiny leak at the base as it is not necessarily an oil proof seal around the edge of the base.

Yes good shout on the grease sweating the inside and creating a seal against weepage. The end attachment is just visible as a traditional grease nipple type lance / rod, that screws into the black hose / end thread etc.....

I haven't tinkered with it just yet, but the night is still young ish :cool2:

  13. I think you would lose points for not having the original brass nipples. The money is not really wasted as you can at least get on with the hanky method. When the proper thing appears you can use the modern one for topping up diffs in Land Rovers at your other facility.

The hanky idea is clever, expedient & certainly works. Not my idea it came from the previous owner of your Pig at a time when I felt very pleased with myself having just purchased a set of those stupid modern connectors;)

Just a thought Clive......The original Brass Nipples still appear to be available......If they were identical and of same tolerance for Hook On I would imagine that no points would be lost?????

  14. I find is best done with an "Andy" Model 5000 High Pressure Lubricator Can be used for oil or grease. Ideally nice to have one for each. Dale had 3 but they are all long gone.

Look what I am the proud owner of thanks to David..........................

Change the attachments for 11B nipples and we are away, with the grease gun retained for greasing duties etc. I hope David stays sober tonight.....LoL! :-D......Clive Full Demo Next Week Please during MT training.
