  1. No problems at all. It was a 164 mile round trip to York, but I haven't sorted the photos yet. It was a nice sunny day with a good turnout, but there was a bit of a cool breeze when the Sun went behind a cloud. Radiator level was completely unchanged by the time I got home.

Thats great news, as always looking forward to your photo's.

  2. My concern at the moment is that Greg and his team are no longer running the Living history area so a lot of trust and faith is going to have to be put into an unknown team.

Neil, this was just the point I was making about "the old team". I do not know any of them nor do I know the new owners, BUT could this be the sort of place the rumours come from ? I remember from an old post perhaps ww2 reeancting forum, that some running one of the fields at Hop farm, classed himself as GOD,with that in mind there are some mighty big boots to fill !!!!!!

I would almost be prepared to lay money that no matter how good or bad the "living history" field is this year there will be a lot of negative comments. I would not be supprised if a damming report has already been written, and is awaiting publication post show. After all this is a huge money making show, or at least that's what some people keep saying so there is a lot riding on the outcome of thier first year.

However your comments about our over seas brothers are spot on...well said.

    Fancy a tenner..............

  3. I have my answer!

Entry to the site will be from Friday 15 July 2016, and exhibitors must be set up and ready for the show opening on Tuesday 19thJuly at 10.00 hours, so it’s preferable to arrive Monday latest. The show ends on Saturday 23rd July but exhibitors will not be allowed to pack up and leave the site until Sunday morning at 06:00 hours. W&PR is a five day show, not a four or four and a half day show, so if you are not able to meet this criteria do not apply!

Actually arriving on Monday and leaving on Sunday makes it a 7 day show for me, and I wasn't previously aware that MV owners couldn't come home on Saturday after the public had left. I wonder how this will affect our friends from across the Channel who have to get back to work the day after?

After talking (at length) with a gentleman at Malvern on the W&P stand, my understanding is these rules apply to the "trading area" only, not the arrival or departure of visiting MV's. He also told me that the rumour of not leaving the site between 08:00 and 18:00 hrs, where just that rumour's. He assured me there would be NO problem in doing that and if there was, to contact him directly whereupon his staff would be educated that you cannont fence in a TANK....lol.

He also explained that any MV's wishing to leave on Saturday would be allowed to up until 18:00hrs, there after the gate would be closed to discourage leaving, but in real terms that would be impossible to enforce, as they are also looking to have shall we say more (user friendly security)

It is true that the area to the right of the MV entrance will now not be used for ANY camping. This is due to the fact they are having to use it as public carpark as they no longer have the use of the carpark.

Im not sure how that will work with regard to people carrying things back to their cars,I suppose that why I dont organise shows......

I believe the new owners were always in for a hiding. I have asked before, how many worked for Rex are working for the new owners, and is there any sour grapes there.....I bet there is.

On a show of this scale everyman and his dog has an idea of what needs improving, every year people (and some pigs goats and elephants) complain about the state of the toilets. So they are trying to sort that, and its costing £10...so what.

If the pigs amongst us did'nt sh*t up the wall and pi*s all over the floor perhaps they need'nt man the toilets 24hrs.

Why dont we give them a chance, and if we dont like it vote with our feet next time.

I should add I have nothing what so ever to do with the W&P peace show apart from being concerned about what I read on here and wanted to know the truth from the horses mouth so to speak.

  4. How annoying, after 685 miles since fitting, and less than a week before the York Crank Up, the head gasket has gone! A replacement has been ordered today, so there's still a chance I can strip the top end, replace the gasket, and get it all back together again for Sunday.

Thats a shame, I know your pretty well on top of things but did you re tighten it after a "running in" period.

I would not have thought a head gasket should fail after such a low amout of miles. Maybe look elswhere ?

Good luck and enjoy your crank up...

  5. UPDATE

I have been informed by The Yorkshire Wartime Experience that to date 28 entries have been confirmed for the Diamond T 75th anniversary celebrations. The entries represent all models with the exception of the 975 pontoon truck. If anyone knows of one of these rare animals in the UK please pass on the event details and contact information.

Details for the event can be found on www.ywe-event.info.

The original target was to top 15 vehicles. We are delighted to see we could well double this figure.

For those still interested in attending there is still time to submit an entry.

This will without a doubt be the biggest gathering of Diamond T's and is unlikely to ever be equalled. Expect some seriously impressive pictures on this thread after the event!

    Cheers,

    Adrian.

  6. Pretty much Wore earplugs on the ranges and in competitions but on ex - never. The DS always said to us the book says for the SLR you should wear the ear plugs - but then you can't hear the bad guy creeping up behind you - so we never used them and, as you say - crack, ringing noise, crack, ringing noise until after a while you have to be thumped on the shoulder to get attention. Noise and deafness passed after a very short while but our armourer always maintained that the ultrasonic noise of the breech mechanism that caused the ringing would be bad in later life. And he was right. Tinnitus is a given these days :-) :-)

Neil, "Tinnitus" is caused by many many things...not always by external noises in the past......sometimes it develops in older age and sometimes your just unlucky if you get it when your younger.

  7. I often get that feeling but I probably am!

But you get used to it. When you help someone off forum there is a low thanks rate for your trouble, once the problem is solved or they have got the documents they want off you.

Thats not limited to forums either...I arrange a number of outings both in the UK and over the channel for a small group of WW2 vehicle owners, normally friends. Its my choice to pay the money upfront for most, I do not expect thanks which is lucky because its VERY rare I get ANY...............

  8. "I still think the 'You cannot leave' mantra is going to cause problems"

Personally I believe they will not be able to stop you, BUT I also believe/get the impression call it what you want...that there are a number of people want to see this Years W&P fail/struggle, again call it what you want. I will send my entry in by post as I always have along with the relevant photo's of vehicles & hope that it will help stop the (I think the word was scammers !!!!) getting in cheaply.

I have no connection with the show, but I for one am prepared to give it a chance, we never know it could improve.

  9. I'm not at all sure whats going on with the W&P show and some of the threads on here.

I had quite a long chat with one of the organisors (Jamie) at the recent Malvern show.

There were no "reading between the lines" in what he explained to me. I did NOT question him re the "IMPS" position as that does not concern me.

I must admit to agreeing with SOME of their sentiments, for example

Photo of you vehicle......this is to try and prevent people entering the show at £25 then turning up in something thats not really an ex MV. That one has my vote.

£10 toilet charge....well for years people have moaned about the condition of toilets, now on the whole we do note need them (within camping) BUT remember its £10 per booking,so those booking say 4 vehicles in it works out at £2.50 p/v.I think this is a see how it works tester. With 2 people per vehicle the extra £1.25 per person wont worry me.....

The ban on exit after 08:00hrs or return before 18:00hrs on show days is in their words pure fantasy and as such Jamie said should there be a problem to contact him.

The question I would ask is this, how many people who worked on/for the show during Rex's ownership are NOT working for the new owner.

I did suggest that the new owners posted on the forums............

  10. I subscribe to classic military vehicle magazine, it's a gold magazine with a bit of everything in it.

I managed to get into nearly every edition last year including the front page driving a 50tonne centurion! Lacking a bit this year but haven't been in show set yet!

Thats a slightly biased opinion in that case

For me it lost it with the advert content, the last I paid for it I worked out there was 47% of it covered by adds all of which I was aware of. It went off the boil, when in the private add section nearly ALL appeared with NO PRICE.

  11. Hi,the Saturday night 40' s themed evening is being run by Wicksteed park itself and there is an admission charge payable to them.Unfortunately there will be no swimming in the lake this year.

    Simon

Is that because Wickstead think the 40,s themed evening is a money maker ?, I'm not sure too many vehicle owners will want to part with much money for that.......

I'm not sure there will ever be anymore swimming after the last farse in the lake.

  12. That might explain why he never got back to me about some canvas work I had.

My understanding is that a few orders "came to light" he did'nt know about and then some rotten sod broke into his workshop and stole equipment and stock. He posted on another forum asking for some backing money......I'm not sure that producing WW2 tents is very profitable in the UK.............

I cant say for sure but this is how it was explained to me....shame anyway, I understand the quality was very good.

  13. Hi All anyone got photos of this years Winter Rally, lost my photos in my I phone meltdown, We had great time, Those Belgium boys & Girls know how to put on great trip well done.

They sure do put on a great weekend, it just goes to show how POOR some of our meets/shows are.

I think one problem in Britain there tends to be a culture of "field sitting" and "counting rivets".... not everyone does. But I gave up with my local MVT as there seemed to be a problem crossing the "Rhine", well at least the M1. in Nothamptonshire.

  14. Luke,

I've heard that you're ignoring emails and calls from customers in Norway who you've taken money from and haven't supplied the tents.

Can you PM me or reply to this thread please as I've tried to call and the listed number is disconnected?

The HMV world is a small one...

    Many thanks,

    Schwimmer

I understand that Luke has stopped trading.

  15. Here is an idea, why dont we ALL park our vehicles OUTSIDE the show ground and then we will be able to come and go as we please and the public will be able to see OUR exhibits for free, so the issue of people paying to see ant empty field goes away......:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I really cant see how anyone can stop you visiting the "dentist or doctor" if needed between 08.00 and 18.30 :angel:

  16. The closed cab GMC had a later body sat on it (not fixed) It did look ready for paint (the body) I am NOT and expert but I would have said the body was 50's, although it looked nice and solid...well apart from the missing floor parts.....

The open cab body was fitted and much more complete.
