  1. Has anyone had dealings with this company, if so, what are they like?

I'm tempted with a vehicle they have for sale, but I'm unsure of what tax is applied to sale prices, and also import implications of a purchase?

Something that's cheap usual never ends up that way, so hopefully someone has had dealing and can advise.

    Thanks guys

    Paul

As a company they are fine, infact very hepful. If its auction then their premium is I think 16% as to wether vat is applied that depends if vat have been claimed back in the passed. Something to take into account is getting the vehicle back, thats when it can become exspensive. BUt as I said as a company they are fine.

  2. Note that the Comet up for auction, is not the same as the one we brought to the WPR. THe one we brought to the WPR is already sold and will go to America.

    Kind regards

I think you should make that VERY clear, as you could end up with some VERY irritated bidder's.......

Most people would assume that was the one going to auction, as that what people were lead to believe........

The old addage of buyer BEWARE.............

  3. I’ll give my two pennies worth having visited W&P every year for around 15 years, sometimes staying and sometimes as this year only going as a member of the paying public on one day. I very much want this show or another very much like it to survive, I like it, it’s great to see a lot of vehicles and reenactors and see friends all in one place.

Additionally as the owner of some larger vehicles and a collector of WW2 ‘stuff’ I feel it’s very important for the European dealers to be there in one place and in large numbers, they give me far more and cheaper purchasing options than some of the very expensive English dealers who I fear are getting unrealistic in some cases. So in my view large numbers of dealers from many countries in one place is the main selling point and the reason for me visiting the show just as much as seeing other vehicles and friends.

As has been said vehicle/reenactor numbers are very much down and this will mean a slow death as it feeds the public interest/attendance, revenue for the stall holders and dare I say now revenue for the show organisers. The location is not suitable, it’s near the ferry for the European people which is good but it’s just too far for many on this side of the Channel. It’s clear we all liked the Hop Farm but even that is a bit too far, it needs to be nearer to say Newbury, near enough for the European people but also much easier for vehicle owners in the Midlands/North of the UK.

Many of the trade stands were very unhappy with numerous things as I heard negative comments from more than ever previously, if they keep getting more cost, less flexibility and it gets more difficult they will stop coming.

The toilets have been mentioned, they were terrible last year and as bad this year. It’s simple, if I can’t wash and go to the toilet how can I stay for more than a day, £10 or no £10.

Regarding the not opening on Sunday and not being able to leave when you wish, I understand why they have been bought in but they will reduce revenue through the gate and vehicles attending. It’s simple it doesn’t fit people’s lives or time available to attend to be forced into one option each (Saturday for the public and 5 days for Exhibitors) we do this for a hobby not as a commercial business.

I’m working on my Autocar U8144 currently, it maybe ready for next year (or not ?) it’s rare as most will know and with its trailer should hopefully make an exhibit that I hope will be of interest. So the question is what’s going to tempt me to drive it all the way from Somerset and pay for the privilege in both fuel and entry fee and toilets, sorry currently it’s not what I saw this year, I can go to many more local shows for the cost of this one.

I would really, really like to be wrong/have my view changed and see this show prosper and I will be the first person to commit to going but I can realistically only see giving it one more year as a day visitor, it’s a lot more realistic.

I’m sorry but the new owner does need to rethink his business plan, the balance of trade, vehicles, reenactors and location is delicate and you will never keep everybody happy, but if you just move toward more profit then these will all fall away in turn and it will fail.

Lastly to end on a high I’d like to thank Dawn at Anchor Supplies, her team and the guy who organises the 4x4 buggies. My friend I was with bought a 9x9 tent and some other bits from them, we came back to collect it later in the day loaded down with other goodies. They had promised to lend us one of their team to help us carry the tent to the car but the extras we had bought ruled that out. One call on the radio and 5 minutes later had us in a buggy being driven right to my car by a very nice guy who even helped us load and unload, it made our day so much easier, we put the tent up the following day to check it and it exceeded expectations. Thank you. :D

I'm confused, is it the new owners business plan you dont like or the fact that you want it moving nearer to you ?

I think people on the whole do not like change, for years people moaned about toilets, showers at Hop farm, now the show has moved there are other issues. I dont think, any location would be perfect. Its about 140 miles each way for me.

Last year one of our group drove his Scout car with Ben hur trailer 176 miles each way.......he had a great time.

  4. "so dont take your vehicles and the show will die."

For us it is the hopfarm next year. Our (my wife, dad and me) disabilities make it hard to reach the toilets by wheelchair on the Kitchener's field. We use matresses on that same bumpy conditions so it hurts my spine up to screaming point.

That is next to the insults I got from the new organiser :(

Ouch that sounds painful, did you hurt your spine at the show ?

  5. To be fair & totally honest, the new owner was going to get it wrong the first year after all there was plenty of hype before the show,as to how bad it would be.

What does amaze me is that Rex had what 27 years to get it right and still did'nt manage it.

I went from the first Friday until the Saturday (9 days) I had a great time. We are restricted to the cr*p field.....oppps sorry Kitcheners because we take our campers. I must say the showers when they had hot water were good. The gents urinals which looked new were also ok, however the throne rooms were NOT as good. Not dirty as such, but stunk, and oddly enough the wash basins were filfthy, not from use but from not being properly cleaned. I was under the impression the additional £10 we all paid was to have the ablutions manned and cleaned 24hrs. I saw no sign of this. The temporary wet weather roadway although not needed was put down but I doubt the effectiveness had it been wet.

apart from these couple of things I thought it was a good effort despite many people trying to "Sink the show" for the new owner.

As regard the number of vehicles, well thats down to us, if vehicle owners only visit for the day and dont take a MV then of course numbers will decline. Its our choice, but its a bit like voting if you don't vote you cant moan who gets in power, so dont take your vehicles and the show will die.

  6. You can try to polish a turd as mach as one like but my money is on the fact the driver (who may not have been a farmer) was totally aware of his surroundings, if NOT then he should not have been driving, Chances are he was on his phone laughing to his mates about the tail back behind him. Sorry but the fines/ punishments are FAR too low for these type of people. Ive followed "Beet" tractors in Suffolk during harvest who's drivers have NO regard for other motorists.

Saying all the above it is a reminder that driving slow vehicles we all need to be aware whats behind us................

  7. Hi Mike, glad you got home ok from A and E.

Are you sure its an ignition problem ? Did it do this before you fitted the electric fuel pump ? might be too powerfull and is over coming the float valve in the carb and flooding the engine, if so changing the carb would not help. Try using a gravity feed to the carb to rule this out. other than that its down to the electrical bits, need to be changed for known working items. One last thing make sure you have not got NGK plugs in the engine they can cause all kinds of problems, as I know.......

    Good luck

Hi Mike, I'm with Richard to a degree. You did not say why you change the fuel pump but did the problems start after that ?

    Gary

  8. I carry a chain block to use with the lifting shackle located above each spare wheel. That's fine at the roadside but mechanical help is much easier at home!

    - MG

Thankyou gentlemen, I have been pondering that for a while, I'm supprised its not shown in the TM.

Thinking about it, the GI's then were a bit smaller, leaner and maybe less well fed than us, arr but they were MUCH younger.

  9. I have had parts from Jeeparts on Katy's brakes for some years now, never a problem. Though I know the other supplier, they never seem available, and the cost a morgatge.

I'm not sure about that Tony, I have rung at all sorts of time and not only were they pleased to take an order they spent a lot of time on the phone with technical advise (to me thats priceless)

Re their costs, on the whole the fact that the prices they quote are including VAT I've not found a huge difference from other suppliers and I cant think that I have had anything thats not top notch. Each to thier own.

  10. Having brought my two out of winter hibernation, leacking wheel cylinder on Ruby the WC51. Not that bad I've had her near fifteen years with no problems. Just ordered a new set of cylinders and flexis from Jeeparts (The Dodge Gods will forgive me) Speaking to Amanda, she told me that as the Dodges have step cylinders and in consultation with Girling ONLY Dot 4 fluid recommended.

Thats where your problem starts Tony.......Jeep parts do CHEAP parts for jeeps, I have NEVER had anyting of quality from them.............they dont really seem to understand Dodges either...... I replaced the whole brake system on our dodge last year with parts from another supplier near Newbury with NO problems at all.

  11. Hello all, out of my field on these vehicles but here goes.

I have a very good friend who does some engineering for a company that contracts work to the Indian Air Force.

He makes some nozzles that are used as part of a cleaning system & power recovery on aircraft engines and has done so for a number of years.

The main contractor has asked if he could do something similar for the T72 and also the OT90. Before he can answer he would like to have a look at the engines of both vehicles.

So is there anyone that would be happy to let him have a look, he is in Bedfordshire but more than happy to travel.

Please contact via PM, and thanks in advance.

  12. Point taken, it wouldn't be much of a show with out MV etc owners let alone the paying public. It takes two to tango though, so to speak. No MV's etc no show, no public no show. Paying for MV's to attend could make for an interesting admission charge to the public

Unfortunately it always devolves to money in the end, but the choice is yours as to how you spend it......... or not.

I'm not an MV owner, so not an issue for me being a "nice to have, by-product" :)

Not being an MV owner its difficult to understand the frustration of some people...........

I remember the first time I read the t&c's at W&P from the last owner, not really that far away from the new ones, and as I remember little of those were enforced.

Lets all just see how it goes and if we dont like the way its run now, vote with our wheels..........

  13. Is it being sold as a Willys or Ford lol .just to be a rivet counter for a change lol , 12v conversion , Solex Carb , late water pump , Willys lighting switch ,the add on indicators/sidelamps under the reflectors look crap , jubilee clips on the hoses naff , white indicator switch on the dash where the lighting switch should be ,extra long valve stems ? Top Bow thumb screws and chains missing ,chains missing off screen thumb screws , never seen an ariel mount like that one ,Ford toolbox lids , Ford crossmember so obviously a Ford .

The GLOSS paint job I personally think looks rubbish ,also disapointing they never showed the bullet holes

Its an easy job to rectify the above plus a new paint job .

What I do like about that Jeep is the early windscreen without the rifle holder mountings would look nice on my 42 Willys :)

If that reaches the estimate , I'll go eat grass with the donkey lol

I agree with you, BUT it looks to have nice original plates on the glove box......Ive seen those alone sell for silly money :nut: :nut: :nut:

  14. If you read my earlier post you can see that I spoke to the current W&P team at length at Malvern in March. I came away much happier.

Of course I could have been lead up the garden path, BUT that was'nt the impression I received, they seemed fair and honest, yes they agreed they wanted to do away with "scammers".........

Putting that phrase in context means the white transit with "UN" stuck on the side with parcel tape. Before we all get heated and say the UN does have white transits and do use parcel tape, I think most of us on here know full well what they mean.
